HUNTER OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== HUNTER, Amanda Nicole 1987 - 1998 Amanda Nicole Hunter, 10 year-old daughter of James and Kathy Hunter, Marshall, Mo., passed away Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at University Hospital Columbia, Mo. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday July 24, at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Mo. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Friday at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton. The family suggest contributions to the Ronald McDonald House and may be left at the funeral home. HUNTER, Charles Cage 1883 - 1958 Last rites for Charles C. Hunter, 75, formerly of Urich, Mo., who died Nov. 21, 1958 in Clinton, Mo., were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Nov. 23 at the Urich Baptist Church by Rev. J. D. Phelps. Accompanied by Miss Avis Lee Cannon, pianist, Mr. And Mrs. Walter Barth and Mr. and Mrs. Bishop Cannon sang " Hope of the Righteous", "Home of the Soul" and "When Morning Comes" Pallbearers were nephews, Kenneth Hunter, Wilbur Hunter, Charles Wilson, R. C. Wilson, Charles Burnfin, and Virgil Johnson. Burial in Carrsville Cemetery. Charles Cage Hunter, the fourth youngest of eight children of Jasper C. and Lucy Ann Guthrie Hunter, was born Sept. 13, 1883, in Clinton County, Ky. A sister and brother preceded him in death. When 2 years of age he came to Missouri with his parents who settled in Benton County Mo. where he grew to manhood. On Feb. 26, 1918 he married Miss Ruth Benezette to which union two sons were born, D. C. Hunter who resides in Clinton and Howard of Richmond, Va. They first settled in Urich, Mo., later moving to Norris, Mo. where his wife died Nov. 22, 1928. The Lucas community, south of Urich, then became his home until retiring from farming in 1935 when he moved to Urich. About 10 years ago he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. For the past three years had resided in Clinton, Mo. His death occurred at the Loftin Rest Home where he had resided more than two months. Mr. Hunter and his wife professed their faith in Christ and in 1926 united with the Cornith Baptist Church where his membership remained. A devoted husband and father, he also had a deep concern for his fellowman and made many steadfast friends throughout his lifetime. To the end keen and alert of mind, he continued his interest in civic matters and current affairs. Besides his two sons, he leaves four grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Meda Burnfin, Fristoe, Mo. and Mrs. Noah (Maud) Wilson, Holden, Mo.; three brothers, Marshall, Sedalia, Mo., William, Blairstown, Mo., and Robert, Kansas City, Mo.; other relatives and many friends. HUNTER, E. A. 1836 - 1923 Clinton MO, Sep 1923 - Mrs. E. A. Hunter, born at Cole Camp 87 years ago, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dora Streiby, on North Orchard street, Saturday evening. She is survived by the following children, all grown: H. E. Hunter, Sedalia; J. C. Hunter, Wilmington, California; Mrs. Laura Counselman, Clinton; Mrs. George Richmon, Brownington; Mrs. Rosetta Peelor, Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Dora Streiby, Clinton. She was the grandmother of Clyde Hunter, on North Second street. Her husband died about 30 years ago. At one time they owned about 600 acres of land at Mt. Zion, and on one corner of which is the Methodist church and cemetery, which was donated for both by deceased and husband. The husband was buried there. The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. E. T. Raney, at the Mt. Zion church, and the remains of the sainted mother, who had, for so many years, been a member, were laid beside her husband. HUNTER, James Wesley 1877 - 1952 James Wesley Hunter died Saturday, Jan. 19, 1952 at the Clinton General Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Sickman and Dunning Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. The Rev. W. O. Harman officiated, and burial was at Bear Creek cemetery. A quartet from the Christian Church sang "Abide With Me" with Mrs. Leo Fellhauer at the organ. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased James Wesley Hunter was born April 6, 1877, in Clinton County, Ky., the son of Jasper C. and Lucy Guthrie Hunter. His home was in Bethlehem Township. He is survived by his wife Susie V. Hunter, one son, Otto J. Hunter of Montrose, Mo. and one daughter, Mrs. Rufus (Beatrice) Hadley, Norwich, N. Y.; also four brothers, Marshall Hunter, Sedalia, Mo., Charles Hunter, Urich, Mo., William Hunter, Blairstown, Mo., and Robert Hunter, of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Noah (Maud) Wilson, Chilhowee, Mo., and Mrs. Meda Burnfin, Crosstimbers, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter had lived on the T. P. Ehrhardt place the past year, but in that vicinity the last 13 years. Aside from 12 years in Bates County, he had lived in Henry County 40 years. He had been in failing health for two years, but was apparently as well as usual up to the time of his death. He stepped outside Friday evening to see about the stock, which was his habit. In 10 min. Mrs. Hunter went out to look for him and finally called Mr. and Mrs. Roy Todd from Clinton, who came bringing Elmer Fellhauer and Mr. Staples. Others arrived and searched in different directions. The Todds found him a quarter of a mile away in a wooded pasture, lying under a tree. He was warmly dressed and when found was unconscious. He was taken immediately to the General Hospital, where he died at 1:25 a. m. Mr. Hunter had suffered high blood pressure which led to the stroke. HUNTER, Jasper C. 1853 - 1926 Jasper C. Hunter was born in Clinton County, Ky. November 15 1853. He died at his home near Chilhowee, Mo., September 27, 1926. He was united in marriage to Lucy Ann Guthrie August 9th 1874. To this union 8 children were born, all surviving him and at his bedside when death came, save one, who could not be located. The children are , according age, Almeda Burnfin , Fristoe, Mo., James W., Urich, Mollie Burnfin, Fristoe, Mo., Marshall D., Sedalia, Mo., Charles C., Blairstown, Mo., Maud E. Wilson, Clinton, Mo., William P., Chilhowee, Mo., Robert Lewis, Kansas City, Mo., Also there are 20 grandchildren and 9 gr-grandchildren. All these, with an aging wife, are left to mourn their loss. Mr. Hunter professed faith in Christ in 1887 uniting with the Baptist Church at Hogle`s Creek, in Benton County, Mo. Later on he stood identified with the Church of God near Fristoe, Mo. The funeral service was conducted Bro. J. E. Jackson, pastor of Urich Baptist Church and internment in Carrsville Cemetery near Chilhowee, Mo. HUNTER, Lucy Ann GUTHRIE 1852 - 1935 "Grandma" Hunter Dies - Mrs. Lucy Ann (Guthrie) Hunter, affectionately known as "Grandma" Hunter, died Sunday Nov. 3, 1935 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Noah Wilson, near Urich. Mrs. Hunter, born July 26, 1852 of Kentucky parents, Dempsey Guthrie and Ann Ellis Guthrie. On the 9th day of August, 1874 she was married to Jasper C. Hunter. To this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters. Almeda F. Burnfin , James W. Hunter, Mollie C. Burnfin (deceased), Marshall D. Hunter, Charles C. Hunter, Maud E. Wilson , William P. Hunter , and Robert L. Hunter. She was a good and very religious woman. For some years she had been an ardent member of the Church of God. She had poor health for many years, although an active woman and was able to be about her home. For five years prior to the last when she was with her daughter, Mrs. Maud E Wilson, she made her home in Urich with her son, Charles .Both her daughter and son were devoted in their care and the other children were where they could see their mother often. Ill health bringing thoughts of the Beyond near, she wrote her own obituary 16 years ago and this, at her request, was read by Rev. Dennis at the funeral Tuesday at 2 p m at Mayesburg church. In it she exhorted her family and all of her friends to turn from the world and seek consolation in God and expressed her whole and complete confidence in her Savior. Mrs. Walter Barth officiated at the service. The body was taken to Carrsville Cemetery near Chilhowee for interment. HUNTER, Ruth BENEZETTE 1896 - 1928 Mrs. Ruth Benezette Hunter, wife of Chas. Hunter, died very suddenly with apoplexy Thursday morning at her home one and one-half miles east of Petersburg.Her many friends were shocked and saddened when the news went over the wires " Ruth Hunter is dead". Altho she had not been feeling well for some time, no one thought the end was near. The afternoon before her death, she had gone to one of the neighbors that lived about a half quarter away, helped with the supper that night and seemed to be feeling better. When her husband went in from doing his chores Thursday morning, he went to her bedside and saw that she was almost gone. He summoned the doctor and her relatives but she passed away before the doctor arrived. Ruth Benezette was born February 14, 1896, and departed this life November 22, 1928. She was left without a mother at the age of ten years and was cared for by her sisters. She was united in marriage to Charles Hunter February 26, 1918. To this union two children were born - Howard and D. C. Hunter. She was converted and united with the Garland Baptist church at the age of twenty years , but moved her membership to Cornith just recently. Funeral services were held at Cornith Baptist church November 24, at 2 p. m. by Rev Homer DeLozier , her pastor, and was laid to rest in Carrsville cemetery near by. Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep .From which none ever wakes to weep. There to await the coming of the husband and sons, and her sisters - Mrs. George Johnson and Mrs. Mary Burke, of near Garland; Mrs. Richard McWhirt, of near Centerview; Mrs. Abie Woodruff, Springfield; and brothers - Frank and Howard Benezette of Kansas City, and Harry Benezette of Chilhowee. HUNTER, Viola Pearl CHILDERS 1901 - 1995 Viola Pearl Hunter, 93, died early Thursday, January 5, 1995, at the Westwood Nursing Center in Clinton. She was a lifelong Henry County resident, living in Clinton since 1970. She was a member of the Northeast Baptist Church. Viola Pearl Hunter, the daughter of George Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Dunn Childers, was born July 27, 1901, in Henry County near Garland. She attended Victor School and graduated from Norris High School in 1919. She attended college in Warrensburg and taught at Victor School. On July 27, 1924, she married William Preston Hunter. Four children were born to this union, Mary Ann, James Kenneth, Glenn Wilbur and William Carroll. Her married life was spent on farms in Henry and Bates counties. In January 1970, Bill and Pearl retired from the farm and moved to Clinton. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1974. Pearl's interests centered around her family and home. Much time was spent gardening, canning and sewing for her family. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Ann Lindauer, killed in an automobile accident in March 1950; her husband in March 1977, and a brother, Raymond Childers, in April 1985. Survivors include three sons, James Kenneth, Chilhowee, Glenn Wilbur, Independence, and William Carroll, Kansas City; one brother, Archie L. Childers, Clinton; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at the Sickman & Dunning Chapel with burial in Englewood Cemetery. HUNTER, William Preston 1890 - 1977 William Preston Hunter, 87, Clinton, died Sunday, Mar 20, 1977, at a nursing home in Clinton. He was born in Benton County, MO, and had lived in Quarles, MO, most of his life before moving to Clinton six years ago. Mr. Hunter was a farmer before he retired. He was a member of the Clinton Northeast Baptist Church. He leaves his wife, Pearl Hunter, of the home; three sons, Kenneth Hunter, Clinton; Carroll Hunter, 215 E. 74th Terr, Kansas City, and Glenn W. Hunter, 3601 Drumm, Independence; two brothers, Marshall Hunter, Sedalia, and Robert Hunter, 2016 Northern, Independence; a sister, Mrs. Maude Wilson, Holden, MO.
