MONTGOMERY OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== MONTGOMERY, Verna Anne HETHERINGTON 1901 - 1994 Verna Anne Montgomery was born August 22, 1901, in Fairbanks, Iowa. She died August 27, 1994, at Meadowbrook Manor in Clinton. She was one of nine children born to Thomas and Sarah (Richards) Hetherington. The family moved to the Huntingdale community, Henry County, in 1907. She received her elementary education at the Huntingdale School and later attended Cottey College in Nevada. She married George E. Montgomery, December 21, 1924, in Clinton, by the Rev. Arthur Lindsey. They spent the first year of married life in Chicago, Ill., and then returned to the Urich and Clinton area. To this union were born seven children. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Verna and George celebrated 62 years of married life together. She was a member of the Clinton Christian Church. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, crocheting, quilting, going to antique auctions and refinishing antiques. Her life was centered around her husband, George, her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed having big family dinners and get-togethers. One of the fondest memories of family members was listening to her play the player piano at family gatherings. Her life was filled with love for her grandchildren, trying always to be impartial. her house was an open house to all. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, January 31, 1986; one son, Emmett; one daughter, Dorothy Bradley; her parents; five brothers, James, Ralph, George, Fred and Paul; three sisters, Emma, Mabel and Janet. She is survived by three sons, Robert Montgomery, Clinton, James Montgomery and wife Luwana, Independence, and Frank Montgomery and wife, Pat, Calhoun; two daughters, Martha Keck and husband, James, Clinton, and Georgia Ross and husband, Paul, Urich, daughter-in-law, Betty Montgomery, Clinton; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many beloved relatives and friends. They will all miss her very much. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Clinton Christian Church with rev. Howard Cupp officiating. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery, under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton. At the service, "Amazing Grave" and "In The Garden" were sung by Peggy Arthur.
