NICHOLS OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== NICHOLS, Violet Opal DODSON 1910 - 1995 Violet Opal Nichols was born April 3, 1910, in Deepwater, the daughter of Cary and Eva (Kisner) Dodson. She died Saturday, November 11, 1995, at the Truman Valley Health Care in Windsor, at the age of 85. Opal grew up in the Brownington area and attended a country school near there. She was also a member of the Baptist Church in Brownington. As a young girl, Opal worked in various homes cooking for the hired hands and caring for children of the home. She earned $1.50 a week which she gave to her parents to help with expenses. On July 25, 1936, she married George H. Nichols. In 1937, their first son, Bob, was born, followed by their second son, Hershel, in 1938. Opal and her family farmed for many years along Grand River until they were bought out so that Truman dam could be constructed. They then moved to Lewis Station and lived there until Mr. Nichols' death. From Lewis Station, Opal moved to Clinton and lived there until she could no longer live alone. Opal always enjoyed needlework, such as quilting and sewing. Reading was another favorite hobby, when she could find time to read in her busy life. She enjoyed gardening and every season she canned food from the garden for her family. Opal liked music and visiting with friends. She is survived by two sons, George R. "Bob" Nichols, Windsor, and Hershel Nichols, Clinton; one sister, Aline Smallwood, Independence; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, at the Consalus Chapel in Clinton, with Brother Chuck Phillips officiating. Musical selections were 'Precious Memories" and "I'll Fly Away". Pallbearers were Randy Nichols, Robert Nichols, Danny Nichols, Duane Nichols, Dale Nichols and Roland Smallwood.
