PICKETT OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== PICKETT, Mildred Irene WARD WEHMEYER 1906 - 1997 Mildred Irene Wehmeyer Pickett died Friday, August 22, 1997, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton at the age of 91 years, three months and 24 days. She was born April 28, 1906, in Henry County, the daughter of Oscar T. and Alice M. Albin Ward. She graduated from Blairstown High School Class of 1923 and attended Central Missouri State Teachers college, receiving her 60-hour certificate in 1925. August 5, 1960, she received a bachelor of science degree in education from Central Missouri State College. She taught in two one-room schools, Brushy and Enterprise. She also taught at Blairstown, Creighton and Franklin in Clinton and did substitute teaching after her retirement. On August 19, 1926, she married Glenn P. Wehmeyer and to this union three children were born. She was a loving housewife, mother and school teacher. Mr. Wehmeyer preceded her in death April 18, 1987. Irene married Frank Pickett April 30, 1988. He preceded her in death May 21, 1997. She was a member of DAR - admitted October 16, 1971; Eastern Star, Clinton Chapter #73, and passed her proficiency exam March 5, 1979, previously being a member of a chapter in Blairstown in the 1920's. She was also a member of the Missouri retired Teachers Association, B Square Extension Club and a 4-H adult leader. In the mid-1940's, she helped organize the hot lunch program at Blairstown School. In Blairstown, she was a member of First Presbyterian, an elder and clerk of Session and Women's Ladies Aid Society. In Clinton she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Women's UPW and Church Circle. Mrs. Pickett's interests included gardening, canning, sewing and cooking. She was also an amateur hairdresser and barber. She is survived by one son, Kenneth Wehmeyer, Lawrence, Kansas; two daughters, Marjorie Rector, Raytown, and Vivian Kilgore, Clinton; one step-daughter, Elizabeth Ann Greer, Ft. Worth, Texas; two sisters, Betty Beaty, Chilhowee, and Elva Ruth McIntire, Blairstown; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and four step-great- great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 25, at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, with Rev. Dick Pierson officiating. Bill Rector read a poem "Abou Ben Adhem" and Dick Pierson sang The Lord's Prayer, accompanied by Mary Ellen Jenkins, organist. Pallbearers were Mark Wehmeyer, Greg Kilgore, Craig Rector, Lee Ward, Ronnie Wehmeyer and Daniel Doll.
