RIVERS OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== RIVERS, Lorena HOOD HURT 1840 - 1920 Clinton Eye March 1920 - Mrs. J. C. Rivers Dropped Dead - At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Hunt, in the Bethlehem neighborhood about 5:25 p.m. Sunday. She had been ailing for several days but had gotten breakfast that morning and eaten dinner. She had laid down most all afternoon, when she got up to get a drink of water and fell dead. Mrs. Rivers or Aunt Puss as she was lovingly called by friends and neighbors, was 80 years old her last birthday. Her first marriage was to Jas. Francis Marion Hurt, three years before the Civil War. One daughter, who is now Mrs. Hunt, was born to this union before the war, and one son, Jas. Hurt, during the war. Her husband was in the war and killed July 4th in the Battle of Helena. A number of years later she married J. C. Rivers. To this union, one son, Campbell T. Rivers, was given. He survives and lives on South 6th street in this city. Her last husband, J. C. Rivers, died about 15 years ago. Her maiden name was Lorena Hood. Besides the daughter and two sons, she leaves seven grandchildren. Her daughter, Mrs. Hunt, has been invalid with rheumatism for the past five years and Mrs. Rivers had tenderly ministered to her every need. Mrs. Rivers was converted years ago and belonged to the Freedom Christian church. Her nature was bright and sunny and tho advanced in years, she enjoyed a joke and friendly chat with her friends, possessing a splendid memory of names and faces. It was but a few months ago she called at this office and told us her age, and had we been guessing we would have made it 15 years less. She was an unusual woman. All her friends lives have been made a little more glad on account of her friendship. Her funeral was held at the Bethlehem church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. J. M. Ramsey, after which her body was laid in the cemetery nearby, beside her husband. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
