ROACH OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== ROACH, Gerald Efford 1919 - 2000 Kansas City Star, Apr 2 2000 - Gerald Efford Roach, 80, Lawrence, KS, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Brandonwoods Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the All Saint's Lutheran Church, 2626 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS; burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 5- 8 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home, 18th and Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to All Saint's Lutheran Church or Heart of America Hospice in care of the funeral home. Gerald was born June 9, 1919, in Windsor, MO, the son of Guy and Alice (Plunkett) Roach. He was a 1937 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School. After high school Gerald went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until entering the Army September 3, 1940. He served with the 216th Armored Engineer Battalion for over two years, served 10 months in France, Germany and Czechoslovakia supervising 45 men in engineer construction and demolition. December 16, 1945, he was separated from the Army and returned to his position at Southwestern Bell in Kansas City, KS. He married Dorothy Virginia Hobbs December 24, 1946. Gerald was a member of the Communication Workers of America Union. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 45 years of service. Gerald enjoyed bowling, stained glass, woodworking, and a good game of pitch. He did volunteer work for Porter Funeral Home, and assembling bicycles for underprivileged children. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He and Dorothy were long time members of All Saints Lutheran Church. Gerald lived in Kansas City, KS with Dorothy until entering Brandonwoods Nursing Home in February 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; and sisters Vivian Walters and Francis Sharp. Survivors include his son, Gerald Roach II, Baldwin City, KS; daughter, Barbara Sterba, Baldwin City, KS; five grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. ROACH, Myrtle Ivy PARSCALE WOLF 1906 - 1992 Myrtle Ivy Roach, daughter of James D. and Nancy Elizabeth Hawkins Parscale, was born August 25, 1906, in Red Top, Missouri, and passed away Saturday, January 4, 1992, at Sac-Osage Hospital, Osceola, at the age of 85 years. She had lived in Deepwater, Los Angeles, California, and Independence, before moving to Lowry City in August 1991. She was a member of the Deepwater Baptist Church, Deepwater. She was married to Albert WOLF and to this union five children were born, Jack, Wanda, Wayward, Loutta and Charles. Albert died in 1947. Later she married Bill Roach. They were married until his death in 1980. Preceding her in death are her parents, two husbands and three children, Wayward, age 3, Loutta, age 39, and Charles, age 57. She is survived by one son, Jack Wolf, Pawhusak, Oklahoma; one daughter, Wanda L. McMillian, Independence; one daughter-in-law, Rose Wolf, Clinton; one brother, Chester Parscale, Clinton, and one sister, Anna Goslin, Deepwater, as well as eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Deepwater Baptist Church Tuesday, January 7, 1992, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Brack officiating. "Haven of Rest" and "Mansion Over the Hilltop" were sun by Peggy Arthur and David L. Mills with the piano being played by Mrs. Arthur. Pallbearers were Fred Hills, Larry Hills, Marvin Hill, Russell Dean Hills, Gene Hills and Mike Hills.
