RUCKEL OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== RUCKEL, George Baxton 1872 - 1943 The Missourian, October 14, 1943 - George B Ruckel Dies Near Creighton Prominent Farmer of Sherman Township Died Friday From Hospital Illness - The death of George B. Ruckel removed a well known and prominent farmer and stockman from the community west of Creighton who had lived there many years and stood as a landmark in that community. George Baxton Ruckel, eldest child of George W. and Ellen Smith Ruckel, was born in Rose Hill, Johnson County, Mo., January 12, 1872 and departed this life October 6, 1943 at the age of 71 years, 8 months, 24 days. When he was four his parents moved to a farm near Creighton, Cass County, where he lived with them until he established a home of his own. Mr. Ruckel and Miss Elizabeth L. Little were united in marriage April 10, 1912 at the bride's home, near Blairstown, Johnson County. Her parents were John and Harriett Quick Little, pioneer residents of that community for many years. The marriage service was read by the late Rev. D. W. Britton, a will known and beloved Methodist minister. Hardly more than two months had elapsed when a terrible tornado swept away nearly all their possessions and he and his wife barely escaped with their lives. He set to work, and steady and uncomplaining labor built up the fortune he had lost. His home was his kingdom and he was tireless in his efforts to maintain and improve it. He was a good neighbor, ever ready to lend a helping hand. he was the soul of integrity, and one of those rare persons whose word as good as his bond. He was a peaceable nature, never entering into controversy or taking up cause against a neighbor. He liked to attend Sunday school and other services of the church and had a great respect for the Bible and its teachings. Saturday, October 2, he underwent surgery at St. Luke's hospital, Kansas City. He seemed to be recovering rapidly, Wednesday evening when his wife went to her lodging she was most hopeful for his ultimate recovery. Between 7 and 8 o'clock his spirit took it's flight with no sadness or farewell. Besides his faithful companion of over thirty years he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Ida Hopkins, Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Chas. Wade, Creighton, Mo., and his brother, Clarence Ruckel of Creighton. His younger brother, Mark B. Ruckel passed away in 1917. Also he leaves four nephews, seven nieces, two great- nephews, one great-niece and one great-great niece, for all of whom he had a deep affection. To those nearest and dearest are added many other relatives and friends who will always cherish the memory of all the sterling qualities of George Ruckel. An honest man's the noblest work of God. The funeral service was conducted Saturday afternoon at the home of Rev. Ira McClymonds of Knobnoster, Mo. Two beautiful solos; Home of the Soul and Going Home were sung by Mrs. Edgar Atkins of Blairstown, with Mrs. E. H. Sammons at the piano. Flower bearers were nieces, Misses Eleanor Wade and Clara Ruckel, Mrs. Harold Jenkins and Mrs. John Koch. Casketbearers were Gene Chandler, Harry Goodson, Kenneth Blayney, Lawrence Wade, Harold Jenkins and John Koch, with Robert Chandler and Ol Wall as honorary bearers. Interment was in the Page Cemetery. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
