SCHWEER OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== SCHWEER, Lucinda Elizabeth HOLLOWAY 1869 - 1953 Nov 26 1953 - Former Pastor Reads Rites For Mrs. Schweer - Funeral services for Mrs. George W. Schweer were conducted Nov. 16 at the family home in Clinton by Rev. G. S. Birkhead, assisted by the Rev.G. W. Schweer, son of J. C. Schweer. Rev. Birkhead was formerly Mrs. Schweer's pastor at Windsor. Burial was in Laurel Oak cemetery in that city, with the Huston-Turner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Schweer was laid to rest at the side of her husband, who preceded her in death August 12, 1935. Music at the service was presented by a quartet from the Christian Church in Clinton with Mrs. James Marks at the piano. Two of Mrs. Schweer's favorite hymns were sung - In the Garden and God Will Take Care of You, both songs she was often heard humming while at work about her home. A recording of Brahm's Cradle Song, a favorite selection of her daughter, Miss Ann, was played softly while guests assembled for the service. Pallbearers were A. D. Sadler, Mark Wilson, Guy Schweer, of Clinton; J. C. Schweer of Parkville; Elmo Witcher, Union, Mo., and Rylan Lampkin of Appleton City, Mo. - Mrs. Schweer passed away at 10:30 a. m. Saturday, November 14, at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. She had fallen on the walk at her home on North Third Street in Clinton on October 16 and suffered a serious fracture of the hip bone. Her daughter, Miss Ann Schweer, who teaches in Jefferson City, came to Clinton immediately and took her mother to the hospital in Jefferson City, where she could have the attention of a bone specialist and where she could be nearby for a daily personal visit with her mother. Mrs. Schweer had excellent health all of her life up to the time of her fall. She had never before had any serious illness or been in a hospital for care. She stood the operation on her leg very well. It required placing five bone splinters together, held in place by a stainless steel band attached to the bone. She improved daily and seemed quite well early in the morning of her death. A sudden heart attack lasting only thirty seconds came without apparent pain just before her death on November 14, just one month after her fall. Mrs. Schweer's sweet personality had made her a favorite patient at the hospital and she had endeared herself to the many nurses who gave her special personal attention and expert care. Mrs. Lucina Elizabeth Holloway Schweer was born January 16, 1869 in Maries County, Missouri, a daughter of George B. and Sarah Huffman Holloway. She moved to a farm home in Benton County, Mo., near Santiage, when a child and here she attended the rural schools and spent her girlhood days. In 1898, she was married to George W. Schweer, who at that time owned and operated a general store in Windsor, Mo. Mr. Schweer later served twelve years as postmaster of Windsor. He organized the Missouri Union Telephone Company, of which he became manager. This company put in the first telephones in Henry County. Mrs. Schweer was a devoted and loyal mother to Mr. Schweer's five children, as she was to her own two daughters and one son later born to her. Patience and understanding were marked characteristics of her personality. Mr. and Mrs. Schweer and family were all members of the Christian Church of Windsor. In 1917, the family moved to Clinton, where Mr. Schweer could better attend to his duties as manager of the Missouri Union Telephone Company. They transferred their church membership to the First Christian Church of Clinton. Surviving Mrs. Schweer are: her son, T. R. Schweer of Sao Paulo, Brazil, who is with the Federal Express Co.; Mrs. Harry F. Covington of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whose husband is president and manager of the Federal Express Company; Miss Ann Schweer, a teacher in the Simonsen High School at Jefferson City. Other survivors include Miss Cora Schweer and Mrs. Lillian Schweer Witcher of Union, Mo.; Guy Schweer of Clinton, Mo.; J. C. Schweer of Parkville, Mo.; and E. W. Schweer of Bremerton, Wash. Mrs. Schweer has two brothers and two sisters in Windsor who survive her. They are Walter Holloway, Arthur Holloway, Miss Rose Holloway and Mrs. Martha Blaney. Louis Holloway of Albuquerque, N. M., also survives, as do twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
