J., George and Jacob; Mesdames Caroline Roehrig and Emma Hartzfeldt. Mrs. Seifried was a member of the German Lutheran church. SEIFRIED, William J. 1844 - 1935 W. J. Seifried answered the final summons at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at his home at 502 North Third street. For the last few years his health had gradually declined, due to infirmities of approaching age and he had been bedfast for several weeks. Saturday before his death he became seriously ill and his family realized that his days were few. William J. Seifried was born February 13, 1844 in Pittsburgh, Penn., and came to St. Louis with his parents four years later. As a young man, he worked in a shoe store with his father for a time, then took up the study of interior decoration. Some years later he came to Clinton where he operated the Heckler house on the east side of the square located where the Ellsner building is now situated. He continued his interior decorating work during his residence here and many of the most beautiful home interiors were the result of his talent and training. When he was 17, Mr. Seifried enlisted in the Federal army and went to Springfield where he served under General Lyons. He moved to Vicksburg in General Seigle's regiment and there became ill with fever. He returned home and entered a Federal enrollment office in St. Louis, working under General Frank P. Blair, until the close of the war. Shortly after the war, Mr. Seifried was married and he and his wife were given several children, his wife and all of the children preceding him in death. He was married the second time to Amelia Heckler and they had one child who died in 1912. March 13, 1890, he was married the third time to Miss Emma Volkman, who was a congenial and kindly helpmate to him. They were given five children, four of whom are living. Mr. Seifried was a member of the Lutheran Church. He was always jovial, had many friends because of his kindly disposition and was well-liked. In his earlier life he played the violin, a talent which he was always generous in sharing with his family and friends. He liked to read and keep up on the events of the day, and thus was always an interesting conversationalist. Those who survive Mr. Seifried are four children: Winfred W. Seifried, who lives in the first house east of his father's late home; Miss Alberta Seifried, Kansas City; Louis Seifried, Clinton; and Reinhold Seifried, St. Louis. Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the late home by Rev. C. A. Butler, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Clinton. Burial was in Englewood under the direction of the Sims Funeral home. Pallbearers were Spanish war veterans; O. C. Davis, Carter Canan, Gene Brandenburg, John Henry, Dean Keyes, Ben Holcomb. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
