SHOTWELL OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== SHOTWELL, John Wesley 1844 - 1930 John Wesley Shotwell was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, Feb 9, 1944, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Austin, Jan. 5th, 1930, just lacking a month and 4 days of being 86 years old. He just took his bed on Thursday before dying on Sunday at 1 a.m., saying he just felt weak, but wasn't sick. He was conscious until the last; apparently just going to sleep. He came to Macon County, Mo., at the age of 8 years, with his parents, who later moved to Livingston County, near Chillicothe, where his father died when little John was ten years told. Left with a widowed mother and four children younger than himself, he saw many a hardship. He could tell many interesting stories of early days, and said he was glad to live to see all the improvements of machinery, from the reaping hook up to the present time and from the ox teams to the airplanes. He, with his family, moved to Henry County in Nov., 1882, which had since been his home. He was married July 12, 1866, to Miss Sarah A. Cox, and six children blessed their home: Mrs. Lillie Kaiser who died Jan. 20, 1925; Wesley, of Clinton; Mrs. Susan Smith, Coffeyville, Kans.; Able of Idaho; Artie of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ethel Austin of near Coal, with whom he had made his home since the death of his wife April 10, 1922. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; also one brother, J. S. Shotwell, of Gooding, Idaho. A short funeral service was held at Parks Chapel, Jan. 6th at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Uncle Billie Briggs, and the body was buried by the side of the grave of his wife in the cemetery nearby. The pallbearers were: Albert Denny, Everett Fowler, Herbert Smith, Walter Fowler, Floyd Shotwell and Leonard Fowler. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
