SLAPPER OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== SLAPPER, Clyde 1906 - 1994 Clyde Slapper, 87, Windsor, died Monday, April 4, 1994, at the Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Clinton. Graveside services will be Thursday morning, April 7, 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, near Roseland, with Rev. James E. West officiating. Friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Hadley Funeral Home. He was born November 19, 1906, in Benton County, the son of William P. Slapper and Eva Thompkins Slapper. On June 29, 1966, in Hermitage, he married Gertrude Johnson, who preceded him in death August 11, 1990. Mr. Slapper was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a Methodist. Survivors include nephews and nieces. SLAPPER, John Jost 1834 - 1910 John J. Slapper Dead. After a successful career of four score and six years, John J. Slapper passed peacefully away at his home near Roseland, Mo., Tuesday, Aug. 2, 1910. He had been ill only a few days and had enjoyed good health for a man of his age. Mr. Slapper was born in Germany in 1834, and came to America when only a boy of 17 years. In 1855 he located in Franklin county, MO., and the same year moved to Henry county where he resided until death. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by the writer, at Mt. Olivet church in the presence of a large concourse of friends. In 1856 deceased married Miss Katherine Rank. To this union, four children were born, two sons and two daughters, all of whom survive him. His wife dying some years ago, Mr. Slapper was in 1884 again united in marriage to Agness (sic) Jane Hartle, who survives him. This union was blessed with two daughters, one of whom survives the father. Brother Slapper united with the Mt. Olivet Baptist church in 1856 and through all the years has lived a beautiful consistent christian life. Mr. Slapper was one of Henry county's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens. He possessed in an eminent degree a high sense of justice and inflexible integrity. He was loyal and true to his friends, devoted to his family and faithful to the Master. He was ready for the sudden call, and with unfaltering faith he entered into "his long home." The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community in this sad hour of their irreparable loss. - His Pastor - Buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery SLAPPER, William Penn 1864 - 1956 Clinton Daily Democrat - Slapper Rites Here With Burial In Englewood Funeral services for William Penn Slapper, former Henry Countian who died Sept. 7, 1956 in a hospital at Greeley, Colo., was conducted at Vansant Funeral Home at 7 p.m., Sept. 11, by the Rev. Wendell Mosser, pastor of the Urich Baptist Church. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Johnson Van Winkle and Mrs. Alfred George, accompanied by Mrs. Calvin Kent, organist. Pall bearers were grandsons, Richard Brown, Robert McCartney, Logan McCartney, Harry Slapper, Buddy Sellers and Howard Stokes. Interment was in the Englewood Cemetery. William Penn Slapper, the son of John J. and Catherine Rank Slapper, was born Jan. 17, 1864, near Roseland where he was reared and educated. About 1884, he married Laura Young to which union two children were born, a son, who preceeded him in death and a daughter, Mrs. L. E. Brown of Kansas City who survives. His wife died after a few years. He later married Eve Tompkins at Versailles and they settled south of Windsor and moving between Palo and Roseland. Eleven children were bron to this union, two of whom are deceased. Mrs. Slapper died in 1950. For about 20 years Mr. Slapper has lived in Greeley, Colo. Mr. Slapper had taken Jesus as his savior several years ago and was of Baptist faith. Survivors are three daughters. Mrs. Brown, before mentioned, Mrs. Ruth Sellers, Windsor, and Mrs. Walter McCartney, Clinton, seven sons, Ralph, Elbert and Herman, Greeley, Colo.; Clyde, Colorado Springs; Waldo, Leavenworth, Kans.; Scott, De Kalb, Mo.; and Lee, Windsor; 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. Bessie Dundas, Lincoln; many other relatives and friends. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
