SMILEY OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== SMILEY, B. W. (Bill) Dr. 1920 - 1998 Dr. B. W. (Bill) Smiley died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Westwood Nursing Center, Clinton, at the age of 77 years. He was born October 10, 1920, in Ponca City, OK, the son of Mames Edwin and Margaret Belt Smiley. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Dr. Smiley was an optometrist and had an office in Clinton for many years, prior to his retirement in 1995. Funeral services were held June 9, 1998, at Consalus Chapel with burial in Englewood Cemetery. SMILEY, Ernest Ted Dr. 1922 - 1996 Dr. Ernest Ted Smiley died in Oklahoma City of a heart attack on Friday, December 13, 1996. He was born in Montrose on November 18, 1922. He was the son of James Edwin Smiley and Margaret Belt Smiley. He lettered in football and basketball and was president of the senior class. He went to the University of Missouri on a football scholarship. When World War II started he joined the Marines. He was a second lieutenant in the Pacific for four years. After the war he attended optometry school in Chicago. On March 11, 1951, he married Dorothy Yancey in Prescott, Arkansas. He and his family lived in Aurora until 1957. They moved to Oklahoma City where his family still resides. He was a member of Rotary and the Kiwanis. He was president of the Oklahoma Optometric Association in the early 1960's. He was an active member of the Professional Businessmen's Association which he helped start in the early 1960's. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. Golf was one of his passions. He never met a stranger and he always had a joke to tell. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and his son, Jim, two granddaughters, Ashley and Adrian, all of Oklahoma; one sister, Marjorie Smiley Parks and his brother, Dr. B. W. Smiley of Clinton and a niece, Patricia Parks, Blue Springs. SMILEY, Margaret Angeline BELT 1897 - 1966 Margaret A. Belt, daughter of Edward L. and Sally Hathaway Belt, was born near Montevallo, October 17, 1897, and departed this life May 5, 1966, in the general hospital, Clinton, Mo., where she had been a patient some two weeks. Her death was attributed to a quick form of cancer. At the age of three, her mother passed away, and Margaret made her home with her maternal grandparents until at eight years of age she began keeping house for her father. They moved frequently to be near her father's employment, and she grew up in the Montevallo, Dederick and Harwood communities, later going to Montrose, where she attended high school. In 1916 she was united in marriage to James E. (Ted) Smiley at Montrose, where they made their home. They moved to Clinton in 1927. They were parents of a daughter and two sons. Surviving are her husband of the home, daughter, Mrs. M. F. Parks, and sons, Billy Wayne Smiley, Clinton and Ernest Ted Smiley, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; one brother, Elba R. Belt, Erie, Kas; other relatives. Mrs. Louis Parker of El Dorado Springs was a niece.
