STONEKING OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== STONEKING, Lee Roy 1907 - 1989 Lee Stoneking passed away at his home in Lowry City, MO, on Saturday, December 30, 1989 after a brief illness. Mr. Stoneking spent most of his life in the rural Clinton and rural Blairstown areas as a farmer. After the death of his wife, Ruby Ruth Akers Stoneking, he married Thelma Berdina Chandler, and thereafter they made their home in Lowry City. Born Lee Roy Stoneking, the son of Frank Burgess and Mary Ellen Stewart Stoneking, and one of 11 children, he grew up loving music and was known to all as one of the best old time fiddlers around, often donating his services for various benefit shows and for the entertainment of the sick and shut-ins. Mr. Stoneking was the father of 10 children and step-father to three children. He was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Thelma B., of the home; five sons, Ervin Emmitt, Fred Eugene, Nelson Lee, Carl Elbert, and Robert Emuel; four daughters: Mable Fay Lewis, Shirley Ann Brown, Mary Jane Milligan, and Judy Joy Merline. Also surviving Lee are four sisters, Leona Cockrum, Birdie Suse, Sarah Bradshaw and Jewel Moree. Funeral services were January 3 at Vansant-Mills Chapel. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery, Norris. STONEKING, Virgil Ward 1913 - 1983 Virgil Ward Stoneking, son of Frank Burgess and Mary Ellen Stewart Stoneking, was born February 7, 1913, southwest of Quarles in Henry County, MO. Virgil passed away on Sept 11, 1983 at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton just before 7 a.m. at the age of 70. He was the seventh child of eleven children. Virgil grew up in the Marine area and attended Victor School, south of Norris. On May 18, 1932 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Marguretta Landes of Deepwater in the home of Rev. A. N. Lindsay at Clinton. To this union seven children were born: Katherine Charlene Hutson, Margie Pearl Albin, William Joseph, Kenneth Wayne, Dennis Dale, James Dean, Carolyn Sue Varner. Virgil is survived by his children, one brother, Lee Stoneking, four sisters: Leona Cockran, Sarah Bradshaw, Birdie Suse and Jewel Moree. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers: Frankie, Sam and Young; and two sisters, Bertha and Tiny. Virgil was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and farmed in that area most of his life. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. Hunting coyotes, squirrel and coons with his dogs was his favorite pastime. Virgil played banjo, fiddle and guitar until arthritis crippled his fingers and hands but he still enjoyed listening to good country music. Funeral services were Sept 13 at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial was in Carpenter Cemetery, Chilhowee.
