STUMP OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== STUMP, Edward Murl 1932 - 1969 Staff Sergeant Edward Murl Stump, United States Air Force, was born May 30, 1932, in Perryton, Texas, and died November 14, 1969, in South Vietnam of heart failure. Sergeant Stump spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to young manhood in Henry County, MO. He accepted Christ as his Savior when he was 13 years of age and joined the Quarles Baptist Church. He moved his membership to the Bethlehem Church. Upon his graduation from high school, SSgt Stump joined the United States Air Force where he spent 19 years in the service of his country. In addition to Vietnam, he served in Formosa, Guam, Saudia Arabia, Alaska and various bases in the United States. Sgt Stump is survived by his wife, Barbara, three sons, Dale, David, and Denis, two daughters, Elaine and Betty, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. George Chaney, Nevada; his father, D. F. Stump, Lenox; four sisters, Mrs. Naida Wilson, Mrs. Barbara Scott, Mrs. Kathy Shanks, all of Clinton; Miss Marilyn Chaney, Nevada; one brother, Richard Stump of Visalia, CA. STUMP, Marion Richard 1937 - 1998 Marion Richard Stump, 60, Visalia, CA, and formerly of Clinton, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, as the result of an illness with cancer. He had spent many years teaching adults to read. He was a graduate of Clinton High School and from CMSU. He had been a Navy officer and also had been sports editor for the Visalia Times- Delta. Mr. Stump was in a serious car accident when he was 30 and was in a coma for 13 weeks. Doctors felt he could survive and that, if he did, he would not be able to function. He recovered, however, and his sister, Naida, and other family members described his recovery as a miracle. He was born on May 16, 1937, in Clinton, MO. After graduating from CMSU in 1961 he attended the U.S. Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, where he attained the rank of lieutenant, J.G. when he graduated. Having completed his service for his country, his life focus turned to helping his fellow man. He taught elementary and middle school for almost 20 years and was a volunteer tutor at the Visalia Adult School for 11 years. A passion of his life was sports and in particular baseball.
