Despite his 84 years he was active and until two years ago had taken care of the Franklin Street Methodist Church in the discharge of which duty he was faithful and dependable, being in their service some ten years. After their Sunday night super his wife was reading to Mr. Trainer, and growing fatigued he retired about 8 o'clock, but he did not rest well as he was choked often with a throat congestion. Dr. Hampton was called at eleven and found that he had suffered a stroke of the left side. He was unconscious most of the time then until morning and slipped away without knowing the end was near. John Montgomery Trainer was born February 18, 1850, in West Virginia, near Moundsville, the son of Jane Hart and Thomas Harvey Trainer. He was a bridge builder in his youth, but in 1875, he came to Iowa, where he took up farming. In 1881, February 2, he married to Jessie C. Drips of Malone, Iowa. They went to Correctionville to establish a new home and farmed there some ten years, but Mrs. Trainer's health was bad and they returned to Malone for a year with her people, then made their home near Clinton, Iowa, until they came to Missouri in 1903 and bought a farm three miles southwest of Calhoun, near East school house. There they lived until 1919, they disposed of the farm and came to Clinton to live.
