TUBBESING, Henry John Sr. 1862 - 1941 Death took the soul of a longtime Henry County resident when it closed in everlasting sleep the eyes of Henry Tubbesing at his home one mile east of Quarles Saturday, June 7, at 9:15 p.m. His grieved loved ones find consolation only in his going that he has been released from a rheumatic illness which began several years ago and in the last months caused complications making him bedfast several weeks before death. Mr. Tubbesing was born August 18, 1862, in Franklin County, MO, where he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church with his parents, brothers and sisters. Henry County became his future home when he came at the age of about 23 to the Quarles neighborhood to work on the farm for his uncle, F. W. Brader. About five years later on March 10, 1891, he married Miss Isabelle Stutte, also a native of Franklin County, who had come to live with her only sister, Mrs. F. W. Schierenberg, who lived near Quarles at that time, but now lives in Oswego, KS. Their nuptial vows were taken in Clinton then they returned to the farm he had purchased near Quarles. A year later, Mr. Tubbesing built a new house for his wife, replacing the old, and this had since been their home. March 9, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Tubbesing quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary which was on the following day, at their home when he, although even then unable to be active thoroughly enjoyed the day with his wife, their seven children and their families. He was a family-loving man, his affection for them being an outstanding memory to his wife and children now. One of the things that he remarked oftentimes, before his body became plagued with constitutional disease, was that he had never missed a day of work in his life because of sickness. His health had been one of his greatest blessings, which, coupled with his ability, enabled him to become a successful farmer with just intentions and thoroughness. Since his retirement about 20 years ago, his farm has been managed by his sons. With his wife, all his children survive, as follows: Garrett and H. J. Tubbesing, and Mrs. Audie Childers, of near Quarles; Miss Ruby and Charles of the home; Mrs. Floyd Manning, of Jefferson City, and Mrs. R. H. Backman, of Chicago, IL. Webdell, of Independence, MO, formerly of Calhoun, and burial was in Englewood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were: J. L. Kimes, E. Tshappat, John Wolf, Clarence Shobe, Will Childers and John Yates; active pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Herman, William, Harry, and Fred Tubbesing, Herman Sauerhagen, all of Quarles neighborhood, and Ted Schierenberg, of Oswego, KS.
