She moved with her parents to Henry County in 1907. She received her elementary education at Comer School and was a member of the first graduating class of Shawnee Mound High School in 1923. Her life, until that time, was spent on a farm near Quarles. Mrs. Wales was always interested in the welfare of others. A tireless worker, she was proud of her home and kept it immaculate. She was a member of the Bethany Memorial Baptist Church in Kansas City at the time of her death. She served as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader for many years, instilling her love for God and humanity in the hearts of the young people under her leadership. Many poems, scriptures and other items of inspiration were found among her personal possessions, testifying to her concern about spiritual values. She is survived by a brother and six sisters: Fred, Huldah and Margaret of Clinton; Viola of Kimberling City, MO; Pat, Seattle, WA; Mary, Yucca Valley, CA; and Laura of Leeton; a step-daughter, Mrs. Peggy Tharp of Trenton; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
