Wednesday night, January 29, at 11 o'clock, where he had been several months. He was taken very ill last March and went at once to a hospital in Springfield. He returned home a short while, then was taken to the best specialists in St. Louis, where he remained in the hospital two months. The men of science pronounced his case beyond human aid and that he would just have to wait for the end. He was then taken to a hospital at Washington, Mo., where he could be near relatives. His daughter, Mrs. Jas. A. Parks had been with him a great deal, spending all of November there, and had been there since January first. Dr. Wallace was born at Marshfield, Mo., Jan. 18, 1860, having just passed his 70th birthday. His father was a physician, also many other members of the family. After he received his preparatory education in Marshfield, he went to Washington University in St. Louis, where he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He then entered Bellvue Hospital Medical College in New York, where he received another degree. He started practice at Marshall, then moved to LaDue, where he stayed a short while then moved to Montrose, in 1892, where he built a large practice, and lived until 1905 then he moved to Clinton and this was his home until his fatal illness. He was one of the outstanding physicians and surgeons of Missouri, taking cheer and skill to the sick and suffering. No matter how morose or ill the patient, and how busy Dr. Wallis he took time to tell bits of cheerful news, while with his hands and medicine he relieved pain. All of his patients loved him. He gave himself unstintingly to the suffering world, many times without remuneration, as no one gives as much as does a good doctor. His practice extended all over Henry County which learned of his illness and death with great sorrow. He was married at Washington, Mo. May 2, 1880 to Miss Fannie Ming. She died at Montrose in 1904.
