ZUMBRUNNEN OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== ZUMBRUNNEN, Gerald 1934 - 1995 Gerald Zumbrunnen, 60, died February 26, 1995, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, after a short illness. He was born July 19, 1934, in Butler, the son of Christian and Sophia Caroline Lee Zumbrunnen. He graduated in 1952 from Rich Hill High School. He earned a B.S. in Agriculture in 1956 and a Masters in extension Education in 1966 from the University of Missouri. He received a Specialist Degree in 1974 from Central Missouri State University. In 1958 he and Martha Ann Davis of Bethany were married. The couple has four children, Ann Cecily, Christian, Caroline and John. Gerald was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton. Since 1959 Jerry has served as Henry County Youth Specialist for University Extension. He was responsible for Henry County 4-H Club activities. For the past six years he had been very active in substance abuse prevention programs. He was president of the Henry County Fair board and was a former member of the Clinton School Board. Survivors include his wife, Martie of the home; his father, Christian of Butler; a sister, Shirley Fischer of Appleton City; his children, Ann and her husband, Mike McCoy of Clinton, Chris and his wife, Ann Zumbrunnen of Higginsville, Caroline Zumbrunnen of Kansas City, and John Zumbrunnen of Minneapolis, and four grandchildren, John and Matt McCoy and James and Rachel Zumbrunnen. He was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers and a granddaughter, Katy McCoy. Funeral services were held on March 1, at 2 p.m. at the Sickman and Dunning Chapel with Rev. Dick Pierson and Rev. Howard Cupp officiating. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery with Charles Braithwait, Gary Westwood, Joe Simms, David Lindell, Robert Wheeler, Jim Licher, Kendall Anderson and Kent Oberkrom serving as pallbearers. The family suggests contributions to a memorial scholarship fund honoring Jerry to be presented to a Henry County graduating high school senior. ZUMBRUNNEN, Sophia LEE 1904 - 1995 Sophia Zumbrunnen, 90, Butler, died Saturday, January 14, 1995, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born April 14, 1904, in Spruce, the daughter of John and Augusta Nieder Lee. On April 19, 1927, she was united in marriage to Christian Zumbrunnen and to this marriage four children were born. They lived on a farm east of Rich Hill. She was baptized and confirmed into the Reformed Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school for many years and was very active in the Women's Guild of the Church. In 1981, when they retired and moved to Butler, she transferred her membership to the Ohio Street Methodist Church and was active in their Women's circle as long as her health permitted. She was also a 4-H leader for many years. She was a loving and giving person and her family was her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Albert, Herman and Christian Lee; two sisters, Rosa Schapeler and Elizabeth Whiteman, and two sons who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, Christian, of the home; her son Gerald Zumbrunnen and his wife Martie, of Clinton; her daughters, Shirley Fischer and husband, Earl, of Appleton City; her brother, Walter Lee of Fulton; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Underwood- Steinbeck Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Gilmore Officiating.
