Je was married to Sara H. Kirch (sic) in the state of Indiana, on October 2, 1871, and moved to Garden City, Kansas and lived there 10 years, then coming to Hickory County, Missouri, where he lived until his death. To this union were borh 10 children 7 of whom are living. One son, Plummer, died February 9, 1909, and one daughter Mary Emma Bruce died February 3, 1920. Those living are Roland, of Springfield, S.D., Belle of Larnard, Kansask; Bert, of Springfield, S.D; John of Lakin, Kansas; Clyde of Elkton, Missouri; Grover, whose address is unknown; Richard of Souir (sic) City, Iowa, and Gertie of Ventura, California. He leaves 34 grandchildren. One brother Israel Newport survives. Mrs. Newport his wife pased (sic) away to a better world July 5, 1918, Since her death he has lived alone with the exception of one year, at Elkton and the last few years on th (sic) little farm where he worked so hard to make it a home. While not a member of any church he was a believer and was baptized when small, and during his last days said he was not afraid to die and was ready to go. He was honest, industrious, a good neighbor and greatly respected by his great host of friends. None ever gave more willingly to charity than Mr. Newport, for he wts (sic) tlways (sic) ready at all times to lend a hand to the poor and needy. As in the words of our Master “In as much as ye have done unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it also unto me. Newport of Elkton, Hickory, MO and Thelma Pearl Hargiss of Wheatland, Hickory MO, son of Beverly Ann Newport of Wheatland, Hickory, MO and Richard Michael Fisher of Topeka, Shawnee, KS. Samuel is indeed buried in McCracken Cemetery in Hickory County, as is his son Israel Plummer and wife Sarah A.C. Kerch Newport.
