Only a few months ago he lost a grown son, a very brilliant young man. Pneumonia is playing sad havoc among our old citizens this winter. Almost every day brings us tidings of new victims to this fatal disease in our own or adjoining counties. Thomas WATKINS, of Franklin township, and Mr. King, of Boonslick, both old citizens of the county, died last week. Mr. David H. WITT died at the residence of his son-in-law, Thomas I. BEASLEY, in Brunswick, Mo., on Monday evening last. Mr. WITT was on a visit to his daughter at the time he was taken sick with pneumonia, and only lived a few days after he was taken. He was probably about 60 years of age, had been a citizen of the county for many years, and was highly esteemed as a citizen and christian gentleman. His remains were interred at Brunswick on yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. The Missionary Baptist Church, of which he was a worthy and leading member, has lost an exemplary christian, and society has been robbed of one of its brightest jewels, the family a kind and generous father and loving husband. The many friends of Major MILLER, who left for California some weeks ago, will be surprised to learn that he has located on a ranche near Elko, Nevada.... The water in Bonne Femme is warm and pleasant, and most any evening you can see whole droves of boys meandering thither to deposit their last year's epidermis. Married May 31st, 1877, by John M. KIVETT, Esq., Mr. John B. NEWMAN to Miss Mahala B. VINES both of Howard. Died on May 14, 1877, of consumption, Eldridge B. GEORGE, aged 22 years, 2 weeks and 1 day. THURSDAY, June 14, 1877 The Missouri river is higher than it has been at any time since 1844. A coal miner, named Geo. W. GRIFFITH, was run over and instantly killed by a train of cars on the Columbia branch road last Monday week. Death of Mrs. Polly MILLER (from the Fulton Telegraph). Mary Ann MILLER was born in Charleston, South Carolina, January 14, 1790. Her parents moved to Kentucky in 1794 and to Missouri in 1814. She was married to Samuel MILLER at the home of her father, Reuben HATTON, in St. Louis County, Mo., May 3, 1817. In the fall of 1819 she came with her husband to Callaway county and located on Miller's creek, three miles south of the place where Millersburg now stands, at which place she lived until the day of her death, which occurred May 27th, 1877. Reuben HATTON's family of which Mrs. MILLER was a member numbered sixteen souls - twelve sons and four daughters. There is living at this time in Callaway county, near New Bloomfield, a sister of Mrs. MILLER, Mrs. Gilson EMMONDS. Mrs. MILLER is the mother of eleven children - Wm. P., James E., Albert H., Wesley G., Benjamain M., John O., Elizabeth A., Angeline, Cordelia, Caterine and Francis. Mrs. MILLER was a member of the methodist church seventy one years...The present Miller's creek church was first organized by James SCOTT, in her house in 1820...in the presence of a large company of relatives and friends we placed the body of "Polly" by the side of her husband, in the churchyard at Miller's Creek, on the 29th Day of May, 1877. Mrs. MILLER was the mother of our worthy fellow citizen Dr. W. G. MILLER of Central College. It is our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of one of Howard's oldest and most honored citizens - Mr. Richard EARICKSON, which occurred at his residence near Glasgow on Friday evening last about 8 o'clock. Mr. EARICKSON was born in the state of Kentucky in the year 1803, and had he lived until July 4th, next, he would have been 74 years of age. He came to Missouri when quite a young man and settled near Glasgow, in the vicinity of which he has resided ever since. By industry and frugality he had succeeded in accumulating a good estate...He had been a devoted and consistent member of the M. E. Church, South, for many years...He was a remarkably active man for one of his age, and on the day of his death, as had been his custom for many years, he rode into town horseback both in the forenoon and afternoon...He had lately been troubled with heart disease, which doubtless was the cause of his death. The funeral was preached at the Methodist Church in Glasgow, on Sunday, by Dr. W. G. MILLER, of this city, after which his remains were escorted by a large number of friends and relatives to their last resting place in the old family burial grounds, near Glasgow. It is our painful duty this week to record the death of Hon. Lewis W. ROBINSON, which sad event occurred in Colusa, California, on the 30th ult, His disease was typhoid fever. There is probably, in North Missouri, a man whose name is more familiar to its citizens, than that of Judge Lewis W. ROBINSON...He was born in Bourbon county, KY., in 1816, but at an early age he removed to Boone County, Mo., with his parents...He chose the law as a profession, and was licensed in 1842. He held for several yars, the position of curator at the State University at Columbia...In 1873 he moved to California, where two married daughters had preceeded him. And in 1875 he was elected Probate Judge of Colusa county, a position he filled with ability and which he held at the time of his death. About a week before his death, Mrs. Ida TOOLEY, an idolized daughter, died of the same disease, and now his two sons, Lewis and Willie, are prostrated with the same disease. The Judge was the tenth child of eleven children, five of whom still survive, to wit: Gerrard, of this county, who is eighty odd years of age; Sidney, of Morgan county; Dr. Alexander of Clay county; Benjamin F., a distinguished lawyer of Texas, and Richard ROBINSON of Colorado. Judge ROBINSON was in his 61st year when he died. He married Miss Mary Hard BENSON, of this county, and was a brother-in-law of Thos. J. and Richard PAYNE... THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 1877 Married on July 21st, at the residence of the bride's father, in Boone County, Mo., by Eld. R. H. HUDSON, Mr. JOHN H. BALLEW and Miss Mattie T. SHIPP. Died on the 18th of June, 1877, Mrs. Mary A. ROBINSON, wife of L. W. ROBINSON, Jr., after a very short illness. She was, to all appearances, on Sunday the very picture of health, and Monday at four o'clock a corpse. She was 32 years old on the 24th of last April. She leaves three little boys, a kind and affectionate husband, and a host of admiring friends to mourn her loss. THURSDAY, JULY 5, 1877 Married at the residence of the bride's parents on the 21st, by Eld. HUDSON, Mr. John BALLEW, of Howard to Miss Mattie SHIPP of Boone. This marriage leads to a complication in the way of relationship, which I am incapable of solving. The bride's father and the bride's mother are brother and sister. The bridegroom's father and the bride's grandmother are brother and sister; on one side they are second cousins. His aunt is her grandmother. His father is her greatuncle and an uncle. Her mother is his cousin and aunt. Her father by marriage is a brother-in-law and nephew to his father. We see they are slightly related, but what term will express their relationship? We know there was a relation and also a ship(p). (Note from Sherryl...wow, if anyone is connected to this couple, I'd like for you to explain this family tree!) LEE, two "bloods" of Old Franklin passed through town on the 1st inst., going East. Wm. GREEN, a farmer living about 5 miles from here (Burton), shot his wife on Friday night, from the effects of which she died Saturday morning. The weapon used was a shot gun....Green was arrested in Roanoke, Saturday, and there is every indication of his being lynched, as the dying statement of the woman makes it appear willful on his part. Died at her home in Roanoke, Mo., on the 25th of June, 1877, Mrs. Matilda, wife of W. V. HALL, aged 40 years, 4 months and 2 days. Died at the residence of her mother, Mrs. Janes C.
