Fitzgerald pfitz2@sbcglobal.net May 15, 2010, 9:52 pm Democrat-Leader 2/25/1904 and 3/3/1904 Democrat- Leader 2/24/1904 Mrs. Julia Mitchell, one of the oldest citizens in the county, died at 2 o'clock this morning aged neartly 80. Her funeral will take place at 10 o'clock Friday. Democrat-Leader March 3, 1904 As noted in last week's Democrat-Leader Mrs. Julia C. Mitchell died last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. S.A. Chitwood. She was born in Essex county Va. June 12, 1818 her maiden name being Miss Julia C. Brown. She was married to Alexander Mitchell in 1835 and came to Missouri in 1839, settled in Boone county. In 1841 they removed to Glasgow and five years later came to Fayette. Mr. Mitchell who was a prominent citizen of Fayette died in 1884. Mrs Mitchell was the mother of ten children, five of whom are living and were present at the time of her death. Mrs. S. A. Chitwood, W.F. and L.D. of Fayette, Miss Laura of Higginsville and "Bannie" of St. Louis. She had been a faithful member of the M.E. Church, South, for 70 years. Her funeral was preached from the residence Friday morning by Rev. Dr. Fielding Marvin and Rev. Dr. H. D. Groves after which her remains were interred in the city cemetery.
