Winn died at his home in Bonnefemme Township Wednesday, January 22, 1902, after an illness of several weeks duration. The funeral services and burial were conducted Friday, January 24 under Masonic rites, he having been a member of that order for a number of years. Born in Bonnefemme Township, Howard county, April 28, 1823. His parents were natives of Kentucky, and came to Howard county in the year 1817. George J Winn was married to Miss Frances A. Hitt May 20, 1852. Ten children were born. Mr. Winn owned one of the finest farms in the county and was a man of large influence not only in his immediate neighborhood but whereever he was known. In 1882 he was elected one of the judges of the county court, and filled his position with great credit and honor. He was a man greatly beloved and will be sadly missed by friends and neighbors who have cause to remember him.
