Boone-Hays Cemetery, Jackson County, Missouri The cemetery is located on the north side of East 63rd Street, four blocks west of Prospect (Highway 71) in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. It is situated on top of a hill which provides an outstanding view of the surrounding area. The east side of the cemetery is banked by a retaining wall and the west side has been heavily encroached upon by nearby construction. Therefore, it is accessible only by climbing. The cemetery was surveyed by the Tomahawk Society, Children of the American Revolution. Present were members and senior leadership: Mrs. Margaret R. Nevin, Senior President, Miss Katie McConwell, President. Miss Heather Anderson, Vice President; Miss Wendy Anderson, Chaplain; Miss Lorianne Nevin, Registrar. Mrs. Connie Anderson, Mrs. Mia Fleegel, Mrs. Edward McConwell, senior leadership; members John Russell Fleegel, Katherine K. Fleegel, Laurie Ann Fleegel, John Benjamin "Jay" Nevin. Children were ages 9 months to 13 years. At the time we visited the cemetery in September 1984, we were able to find only eight grave stones remaining. Because of clumps of day lilies here and there, we felt confident there were others present at one time. Although there were signs of heavy branch removal recently, the grounds were covered with weeds higher than most of the children's heads, and reaching the shoulders of the adults. The area is peppered with cedar seedlings, burrs, poison ivy, and oak trees. In order to help preserve the history of this site, the survey, together with photos of the remaining stones, were presented to the Jackson County, Missouri, Historical Society in October 1984. The Boone Hays Cemetery was marked by the Kansas City Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Restored by Elizabeth Benton Chapter, Sarah Boone Chapter, Westport Chapter, NSDAR; Mary Ball Washington Chapter, Daughters of American Colonists; James Kearney Chapter, United Daughters of 1812; Colonial Dames Chapter XIII; and Ada Greenwood McLaughlin.
