He was found by some Ottowa Indians, near where he was supposed to have encamped on the first night after Mr. Liteendorfer, left him. It is not certain from the appearance of his skull, whether he was shot or killed by the blow of a hatchet or some other blunt weapon. No one can conjecture who was the assassin. The mail which was in charge of Mr. C. has not been found.
