All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mo/mofiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Bill BOGGESS billboggess@webtv.net January 18, 2008, 11:30 am Author: William Samuel BOGGESS    There was at least one Boggess in Carthage, Missouri(ah) since September 1889 when fifty-three year old widow Sarah Elizabeth (Wood) Boggess arrived with three young sons until death of her oldest grandson, seventy-five year old Luke J Boggess my father, passing away, 5 November 1974.    Widow Sarah Elizabeth (Wood) Boggess arrived with her three young sons, Samuel Cleveland, 15, Thomas Howard, 13 and Hale M, 10 y/o, from Bristol (formerly, Cherry Camp), Tenmile district, Harrison County West Virginia where her husband, Samuel, died 2 February 1888 (BK 5; pg 8), buried 4th of February at Point Pleasant cemetery (abandoned 1964 by Methodist church).    Samuel Cleveland, "S C" or "Sam", went into minning, banking, insurance, etc, was Mayor during the flue epidemic of 1918, then lived four years in Kansas City, balance in Carthage, first marriage with five children, three to adulthood, Luke J, lived in Omaha, Nebraska, Kansas City and Carthage, had two sons, three grandchildren, Edith married lived in Carthage, Washington D C area and overseas, had one daughter with one grandchild, and S C, Jr, lived Carthage, St Joseph, St Louis, Webster Groves, Missouri, Dearfield Beach, Boca Raton, Florida with summers on Cape Cod, married, raised three kids, six grandchildren. Thomas Howard became a Baptist minister married, was childless, raising eight orphans, served at Carthage, Illinois, Kansas City, Kansas, Lincoln, Nebraska, Mount Ary, Iowa. Hale M, Carthage banker, had one daughter, Elizabeth, no grandchildren. Sarah's sons and three of four grandchildren are at rest, with spouses, in Park cemetery, Carthage, S C jr and wife are at Seaside cemetery, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.    My brother, L Jack, was born 11 June 1924 in Omaha, Douglas county, Nebraska to Frances Elizabeth Flora and Luke J Boggess, while dad was manager of branch office for Industrial Loan and Investment Company. I was born 15 February 1927 at Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri after dad had set up books for Mr C L Brown and his United Telephone & Electric Company in Abilene, Kansas (2005 becoming Sprint Nextel Corporation, 2006 splitting off Embarq Holding company) while working for accountants, Arthur Andersen & Company. We moved to Carthage following early April 1928 deaths of my mother and dad's mother, 14-hours earlier. Aunt Edith, 21 y/o, returned from University of Missouri and assumed being the women of the house. We lived with grandfather, S C, at 1217 S Main street. I spent time in Pueblo, Colorado with maternal aunt's family, the Hopkins, until dad was settled in at Carthage from our home, 7325 Pennsylvania avenue in Waldo community of Kansas City, Missouri.    Dad remarried 6 April 1932 to widow, Muriel Margaret (Haight) Busboom (1897NE-1983MO), with a daughter, Mary Margaret (1924NE-1992MO), so we moved in with them at 1218 S Maple street. Brother Jack (1924NE-2001OR) left for prep school in 1941, graduating from U S Naval Academy in accelerated (three year) Class of 1946, married 1951, had three daughters with six children.
