The Rev R H Bodine, pastor of the First Methodist church was in charge, assisted by Rev Dr W G Clinton.     The Rev Mr Bodine paid tribute to Mr Boggess, a former mayor of Carthage, for his leadership in church and civic affairs over a long period of years.     A quartet composed of Mr and Mrs Earl Overby, Mrs Carl Roper and Eugene Fullerton sang "Crossing the Bar" and In the "Sweet Bye ad Bye". The accompaniments were played by Mrs Clark V Wallace organist.     Honorary pallbearers were J W Dennison, M B Fairfield, H A Spradling, John Carter, B F Harnhart, W J Sewall, E L Dale, W E Carter, Everett Hough and Wiley Spencer, the later from Springfield. Active pallbearers were Dr R W Webster, W R McCormick, George Calhoon, John H Flanigan, W T Lawhead and Dryden Reynolds.     The Knights Templar stood guard at the casket and formed an escort to the cemetery. The Masonic ritual was conducted at the grave in Park cemetery.     Mr Boggess, secretary of the Home Federal Loan and Savings Association and a partner in the Boggess Insurance Agency, died last Thursday in St Mary;s hospital in Rochester, Minn.     Many friends and relatives were in attendance for the services and there was an abundance of flowers, including sprays from St Louis, Kansas City and points in the district.     Mr and Mrs S C Boggess, jr, of St Louis, son and daughter-in-law of Mr Boggess and Mrs Edwin Hough of Washington, D C a daughter were here for the services.     Additional Comments:    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ S C Boggess was born 1874 in Cherry Camp, Harrison county, West Virginia. His father, Samuel died in 1888, and his mother Sarah Elizabeth (Wood) Boggess brought her three sons to Carthage in 1889, she died 1918 with body returned to be buried with husband nd parents in West Virginia. He 1st married Kate Knight in 1898, that union bring forth five children, three to adulthood, 2d married Fern Dreisbach in 1937, she surviving.
