Biographical Sketch of J. P. Hughes, Johnson County, Missouri Grover Township >From "The History of Johnson County, Missouri," Kansas City Historical Co. 1881 J. P. HUGHES, farmer and stock raiser, P.O. Sigel. This enterprising citizen is a native of Smith county, Tennessee, and was born August 5, 1833. In 1854 he located in Johnson county and worked by the month for about two years. He married Miss Holley W. Porter in 1857, a native of Tennessee. >From this union they have four children: Mary E., William L., Martha F. and Jesse J. In 1858 he moved to his present location, where he has an improved and fine farm of 150 acres.
