Knox County, Missouri Obituaries - Robert Sellens OBITUARY Robert Sellens was born February 1, 1833, in Susex County, Egnland, and died at his home in Knox City, Missouri, March 30, 1912. He came to America November 26, 1850, and lived in New York State until 1853 when he was married to Mary Ann Kenward, September 21, of that year. He then came to Payson, Adams County, Illinois, where he resided until 1866, when he came to Knox County, Missouri. To this union was born eight children: Mrs. R. H. Murphy, James William, who died in infancy, Charles, Mrs. John Harvey, all of Knox City; Mrs. W. F. Elston, of Kirksville; Robert W., of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. James Inman, of Payson, Illinois; and Walter E. of Bismark, North Dakota. His wife died October 19, 1892. He was married to Mrs. L. W. Cochran, December 5, 1894. He was converted in 1848 and he became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. On coming to America, there being no church of his belief, he united with the M. E. Church. Some thirty years ago he accepted the Theocratic Faith believing in the Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man worshiping with all christians. Brother Sellens, was a model husband, father, neighbor and citizen. He loved the free institutions of his adopted country. Religion was peculiarly he theme that kindled the fires and stired the deep emotions of his soul. He was the type of ______________ thinker and independent investigator. He possessed unusual intellectuality and logical acumen. His positions once chosen were unassailable. His was unwavering confidence in the final triumph of truth and right. He often officiated in public as a religious teacher, but he did not aspire to leadership. All he desired was liberty, freedom, and this he willingly accorded all others. His funeral was conducted from the Christian Church, which was well filled by sympathic friends. He selected for the subject of his funeral oration, "The Possibilities of Life," and selected the writer to deliver it. Addision L. (Willis) Elston was Lucy Sellens Elston. Robert W. Sellens, at one time, held the job of Sheriff at Deer Lodge, Montana. Mrs. James Inman was Susan Orpha Sellens Inman. Walter Emmett Sellens married Mabel C.
