Biographical Sketch of Henry L. Brown, Laclede County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Henry L. Brown, postmaster of Conway, Laclede County, Mo., was born in Webster county, Mo., January 16, 1860, and is a son of George A. and Nancy (Kilburn) Brown, natives of Tennessee, the former born October 26, 1823 and the latter April 7, 1828. The parents were married in their native state December 31, 1844, where they spent the first ten years of their married life, and then moved to Greene county, Missouri. About 1858 they located in Webster county, Mo., where they still live. George A. Brown has always been a farmer, and has been very successful in his chosen occupation. He is a Democrat politically, and, with his wife, is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, in which they take an active part. Eight children were born to the parents of our subject viz.: Arminta F., who is now the wife of William Cain, a minister of the Missionary Baptist church, now living in Webster county; Neil S., a carpenter of Conway, Mo.; Allen D., a farmer of Webster county; James J., also a farmer of Webster county; Henry L.; Martha E., who married John H. Smith, a farmer of Webster county; George L., a farmer of the same county, and Millie N. (deceased) was the wife of James L. Rice, of Conway, Mo.; the latter, who was born in 1866 and died May 15, 1888. January 18, 1880, Henry L. Brown married Maria E. Conner, daughter of Solomon Conner, of Dallas county, Mo. Mrs. Brown, who was also a native of Dallas county, Mo., is the mother of two children: Gracie S. and Oscar L. In 1880 Mr. Brown located in Conway, and the following three years was employed as salesman in the establishment of C. Hanson. He then taught school one year in Webster and Laclede counties, and on October 23, 1885, was appointed postmaster of Conway, of which office he is the present incumbent, having served with credit. Mr. Brown is a Knight of Pythias, and in 1887 represented his lodge at St. Louis. He is also a member of the Baptist Church, and Mrs. Brown is a member of the Congregational Church.
