Biographical Sketch of A. S. Coffman, Laclede County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** A. S. Coffman, a worthy farmer of Washington township, Laclede county, Mo., was born in McMinn county, Tenn., in 1833, and is a son of John and Elizabeth (Turner) Coffman. After residing in his native state until 1852, he at that date removed to Laclede county, Mo., where he soon after became the owner of some real estate and engaged in husband- ry. He has now a fertile and well cultivated farm consisting of 207 acres, and is considered one of the enterprising and successful farmers of Laclede county. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and in 1862 enlisted in Company G, Sixteenth Missouri Volunteer Cavalry, and distinguished himself as first lieutenant, being mustered out of service on the 30th of July, 1865. He participated in a number of severe skirmishes, and was once wounded. In 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Connor, a daughter of Armstrong and Unity (Strickland) Connor, by whom he became the father of fifteen children, thirteen of whom are now living.
