Biographical Sketch of B. H. H. Cowgill, editor of the Sentinel at Lebanon, Mo., and son of Elisha Y. and Joannah (Bland) Cowgill, was born in Clark county, Mo., April 21, 1854. The parents were natives of Kentucky, and immigrated to Clark county, Mo., about 1832, being among the first settlers of that county. They remained there until 1864, when they removed to Lewis county of that State, locating at Canton, where both died. They were the parents of four children: B. H., Emma (wife of Frank C. Devil- bliss), Anna (wife of Fred J. Budreau), and George I., who resides in Lewis county, near Canton. The paternal grandfather of these children was a soldier in the War of 1812. H. B. Cowgill attained his growth in Lewis county, Mo., receiving the principal part of his education there at Christian University, and later attended the Christian Brothers College at St. Louis, leaving when in the sophomore class to go to Pike county, Mo., where he was appointed to a position as deputy collector, which position he held for six years. In 1875 he founded the Pike County Express, now the Bowling Green Times, which he continued to publish until July, 1880, when he sold out to Adjt. Gen. J. C. Jamison. In 1881 Mr. Cowgill removed to Lebanon, Mo., and purchased the Angi- Monopolist, changing the name ot the Laclede County Sentinel, which he still edits. This paper is conducted independent of party, though during the recent campaign it was identified with the Labor party. It now enjoys a good circulation. Mr. Cowgill has the experience of many years as a newspaper man, and the pages of his paper are newsy and full of interest. He was married in June, 1878, to Miss Alice Sanderson, of Bowling Green, Pike county, and both he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
