Biographical Sketch of James Franklin Davis, Laclede County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** James Franklin Davis, of Mayfield township, Laclede county, Mo., was born in the county in which he now resides, August 22, 1856, and is a son of James Monroe and Charity A. (Casteel) Davis. The former was born in Warren county, Ky., and throughout life was a farmer by occu- pation, and made a settlement in Laclede county, Mo., as early as 1840 while he was yet a young man. He was married after coming to Missouri, his wife being a native of Middle Tennessee, and their union was bless- ed with the birth of six sons and three daughters. James Franklin Davis is the eldest of their children, and grew to manhood in Laclede county, and married Florence Brooks, a daughter of Cyrus C. Brooks and Elvira C. (Skelton) Brooks, who were born, reared and married in Ala- bama, and settled in Missouri about 1868.
