The parents were natives of Virginia and Newark, Ohio, respectively. The Hoskinson family were of Scotch origin, and were early settlers of Virginia. Isaac Hoskinson, Sr., immigrated to Lincoln county, Ohio, at quite an early date, and here he married Miss Thrapp. In 1821 he moved to Wabash county, Ill., and here resided until his death, which occurred in the spring of 1830. He was a wheel wright by trade, and followed the same all his life. The mother died at Mount Carmel in 1864. They were the parents of six children, two now living: Gamaliel, who resid- es in Boulder, Colo., and Isaac, Jr. The latter was brought up in Mount Carmel, where he was educated. He engaged in merchandising at the age of thirteen years, and in 1854 he went to Graysville, Ill., where he was engaged in merchandising until 1856. He then went to Clay county, Ill., and here remained until 1865, when he went to Rolla, Mo. In 1869 he left Rolla and came to Lebanon, where he engaged in merchandising with Hugh McCoin, under the firm title of Hoskinson & McCoin, until 1878. Previous to this, in 1877, the woolen mill was erected, and in this Mr. Hoskinson became a stockholder, and has been its president since its erection. He is also engaged in the real estate business quite extensively, in buying and selling land, both wild and improved. He is interested in about 7,000 acres of land in Laclede county, of which the most is in a wild state. Mr. Hoskinson was elected probate judge of Laclede county in 1872, serving four years; has held several minor offices, and takes a great interest in religious and educational matters. He is a member of the Masonic fra- ternity, Blue Lodge, Chapter and Commandery. He was married, in 1854, to Miss Jane M. Lutes, a native of York, Penn., and to them was born one child, Myrtle, wife of James T. Moore, representative of Laclede county. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
