The Hulses were for several generations back railroad engineers, and the grandfather of Edmund Hulse went to France as an engineer. He was for many years a locomotive engineer, and John E. Hulse was also an engineer for twenty- eight years. He came to this country in 1851, landing in New York, and from there went to Milwaukee, Wis. He afterward returned to England and mounted his same old engine, and in 1866 he came back to America. He remained in Fond du Lac, Wis., for three years, and then came to Laclede county in 1869, locating on a farm, where he remained until 1872, and has been farming ever since. He was the father of seven children, five of whom are now living: Edmund, John, Albert, William, and Adelaide, wife of William Nyberg. Two children died in infancy. Edmund Hulse was eighteen years of age when he came back to Wisconsin, and in 1872 went to Chicago, where he worked as a machinist until 1880 when he came to Laclede county. He has a good farm in this county, and is doing well. He was first married in 1873 to Miss Margaret Wilder, who was the widow of Hiram L. Wilder, of Chicago. She was born near the last named city, and by her union with Mr. Wilder became the mother of three children. She also had three children by Mr. Hulse, two of whom died. Mary is the only one living. Mr. Hulse took for his second wife Miss Ella E. Wilder, by whom he has five children: Jennie, Edith, Edmund, John and Margaret. Mr. Hulse is a rather prominent man in politics, and affiliates with the Union Labor party. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity at Lebanon; is a member of the A. O. U. W., and he and wife are members of the Methodist Protestant Church. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
