Biographical Sketch of William Richey, Laclede County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** William Richey, a wide a wake, thorough going tiller of the soil, of Hooker township, Laclede county, Mo., was born in Union county, Ohio in 1833, and is the son of James and Sarah (Newhouse) Richey, natives of Pennsylvania and Ohio, respectively. The father was born in 1798. The grandfather, William Richey, was a native of Scotland, and came to America with his parents. They located in Beaver county, Pennsylvania. William Richey was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and immigrated to Marietta, Ohio in the year 1813. He was a farmer by occupation, and continued at this near Marietta until 1815, when he moved to Union county, Ohio. He was eighty-eight years of age at the time of his death. James Richey was also a farmer, and at an early day moved to Delaware county, Ohio, where he married and passed the remainder of his days. He died in 1885. He was a Whig in politics, and a member of the Presbyterian Church. The mother was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, in 1801, and grew to womanhood in Delaware county, where she married and lived until her death in 1881. She was a member of the Methodist Epis- copal Church, and the mother of seven children, all now living: Newton, Martha, Nancy, William, Mary, Eura and James. William grew to manhood on the Sciota River, Ohio, and followed farming in Delaware county until he came to Laclede county, Mo., in 1882. He was a soldier in the late war, enlisting in Company C, One Hundred and Twenty-first Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served eight months. He was at the battle of Perryville, Ky., and otheres. He was married August 20, 1861, to Miss Martha Newhouse, a native of Delaware county, Ohio, born April 14, 1844. This union resulted in the birth of eight children: Eliza (died in childhood), Robert, Alexander, Sarah, Ralph, Ada, Samuel and Mary. Mr. Richey is a Republican in his political views, is a member of the I. O. O.
