Jerome Minkler and Marvin Martin, of Lebanon, spent Sunday afternoon with Clarence and Leo Smith. ___________ Margaret Taggard living west of town, went to Phillipsburg last week, to work for the telephone company. ___________ Miss Anna Knight, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Knight, departed for St. Louis Saturday morning. ___________ Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Ross drove down to Lebanon Sunday, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ross. In the afternoon, they all made a trip to Bennett’s Mill. ___________ Ralph Denton and family spent last week in Lebanon visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. a. Denton. They will soon move to Springfield, where Ralph is employed as dispatcher for the Frisco. ___________ Two more of our boys have landed safely in France the last week, to fight for us over there. They are: Dan Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Davis, and Jason Rader, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darius Rader. ___________ Pat Gallagher and daughter, who came here from Bisbee, North Dakota, to attend the funeral of Mr. Gallagher’s son-in-law, John Boatz, departed Friday for their home. They were accompanied home by Mrs. John Boatz and children. Unless we have more rain, the potato crop will be short. ___________ I guess Uncle Sam has too much to study about to think anything about putting the mail route back from Morgan to Pease. ___________ Mrs. J. W. Hicks visited her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Parlet, of Marshfield, during the last week. She reports a good rain at that place. ___________ If the Democrats do have their slogan machine well oiled, sometimes too much oil is not good. If you flood the engine with oil, she goes dead. ___________ I see that W. C. Druen has filed for recorder. Mr.Druen is a good man and the writer certainly hopes to see him elected, for he is worthy of the place. ___________ Rather dry here for setting out tomatoes. Everybody has the tomato fever here, for we want to help win the war, and they say plenty to eat will help win. ___________ Some say one thing and some say another will win the war, but the writer thinks the only way to win is to kill them Huns, for it will certainly have to be done. ___________ An aeroplane passed over this section on Decoration Day. It was low down and apparently had two men in it. It came from the southeast and was going northwest. ___________ Talk about this being a Democratic war! It is no more a Democratic war than it is a Republican war. It is a matter that the whole world is interested in, and all for the same cause. It is not our people against one another, the North and the South, as in the Civil War, but it is the whole people against Germany, not Democrats or Republicans. W. Barnes, of California, arrived here last week to visit relatives and old friends. ___________ Rev. H. C. Clark filled his regular appointment in the Christian church Sunday morning and evening. ___________ Ferrill Hayes, who has been to Oklahoma for some time, visited his mother, Mrs. Mary Hayes, last week. ___________ Camea Barnes, of Kansas City, has been spending a few days with relatives near here. Miss Barnes’ former home was in Phillipsburg. ___________ Mrs. Cora McMahan and daughter, Golda, of Springfield, are spending a few days in the home of Mrs. McMahan’s mother, Mrs. N. J. McFarland. ___________ Rev. Thomas S. King, accompanied by several members of the M. E. church attended the meeting of the district conference at Marshfield this week. ___________ Mrs. Lillian Pope departed Friday morning for her home, in Enid, Oklahoma. Miss Florine McFall accompanied her as far as Springfield, returning home Saturday.
