Barton, postoffice Mayview, son of Bently and Martha Barton, was born in this county June 3, 1843, where he was raised and educated. He is a self-made man, and has made himself conspicuous as an active worker in most public matters. In 1879 he tried his fortune in the silver mines of Colorado, was not very successful, and in eight months returned to his farm. He is a consistent member of the Baptist church, and has two brothers who are preachers in the same church.
