Biographical Sketch of Hon. H. C. Chiles, Lafayette County, Missouri >From "History of Lafayette County, Mo., carefully written and compiled from the most authentic official and private sources" St. Louis, Mo. Historical Company, 1881. ********************************************************************** The subject of this brief sketch, a man closely identified with the interests of this county, was born in Montgomery county, Ky., July 6, 1818. Was reared and educated in his native county. In 1859 he came to Missouri and settled in Lafayette county, where he has since resided engaged principally in farming and trading. In 1840 he was united in marriage to Miss Maria Wilson, of Bourbon county, Ky., who died in 1845, leaving two children. In 1848 he was married again to Mrs. Ruth Fearing of Helena, Arkansas. By this marriage they have one child. Mrs. Chiles died in 1865. In 1868 he married Mrs. Lavina C. Graves, of Lexington. This union is blessed with one child. In 1862 Mr. Chiles was elected to represent this county in the state legislature, in which he served for one term. He is a member of the Grange, of which he is master.
