Biographical Sketch of Joseph R. Major, Lafayette County, Missouri >From "History of Lafayette County, Mo., carefully written and compiled from the most authentic official and private sources" St. Louis, Mo. Historical Company, 1881. ********************************************************************** Joseph R. Major, merchant, P. O. Higginsville. Was born in Wellington, this county, January 8, 1855. Is the son of William B. Major and Prud- ence E. Warder, who were married in Lexington, Missouri. In 1870 he went to Aullville and engaged in mercntile pursuits for two years at the expiration of which time he sold out his stock of goods and went into the grain business. In 1878, April 24th, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Kellar, of Aullville. In 1880 he removed to Higginsville and opened a hotel, complete in all of its appointments. The town being, then in its infancy and the business not meeting his expectation, he sold out and again embarked in the grocery business.
