Biographical Sketch of Rev. John Meyer, Lafayette County, Missouri >From "History of Lafayette County, Mo., carefully written and compiled from the most authentic official and private sources" St. Louis, Mo. Historical Company, 1881. ********************************************************************** Rev. John Meyer, pastor of the Methodist Church at Concordia; born in Germany, October 5, 1832. Was raised and educated there until he was nine years of age, when his parents brought him to the United States, locating in Henry county, Mo., where they lived for sixteen years. He then went to St. Louis, where he finished his studies of the common branches. Being in somewhat straitened circumstances, he was obliged to pursue his studies under great disadvantages. By dint of hard work and close application, however, he succeeded in acquiring a very good education. He is a self made man in the full sense of the word. In 1865, he began his studies for the ministry, finally passing his exami- nation before the Southern Illinois Conference. In 1869, he was ordained an elder of the Methodist Episcopal Church, since which time he has officiated as pastor in the following named places: Second Creek, Gasconade County; Union, Franklin County; Hopewell, Warren County; Burger, Franklin County; Lake Creek, Pettis County; Concordia, Lafayette County. He settled in the latter place in 1880, preaching his first sermon on the 3rd day of October. He is an enthusiastic expositor of the doctrines which he has espoused, doing his duty as he sees it, regardless of consequences. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
