Biographical Sketch of George L. Historical Company, 1881. ******************************************************************** George L. Townsend, furniture dealer, Odessa, is a native of New York, born in Washington county, June 11, 1848. Was raised and educated in his native state, and at the age of eighteen learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed until 1868 when he went to Kansas and engaged in railroading. He followed this occupation for eight years in Kansas and two years in Sedalia, this state. December 24, 1874, he was married to Miss Lizzie Cryderman, of Solomon City, Kansas. They have two children: Bertha and Roy. March 4, 1879, he moved to Odessa, where he has since resided engaged in the furniture business, in the pursuit of which he has a full share of patronage. He is a member of the I. O. O.
