Biographical Sketch of Augustus W. Willis, Lafayette County, Missouri >From "History of Lafayette County, Mo., carefully written and compiled from the most authentic official and private sources" St. Louis, Mo. Historical Company, 1881. ********************************************************************** Augustus W. Willis is a native of Carroll county, Mo.; born August 2, 1847. His parents moved to Lafayette county in 1854, where he was educated. With the exception of five years spent in farming in Ray county, Mr. Willis has been a continuous resident of this county since his advent. He is engaged in the cultivation of a fine farm of 280 acres, paying considerable attention to the raising of stock. In Dec- ember, 1869, he was married to Miss Susan V. Eppes, of South Carolina. They have five children, named as follows: Edward S., John W., Claude R., Bessie and Gussie. His father was a native of Maryland, and came to Missouri in 1840. He was familiarly known as "Col." Willis, the title, however, being founded on fiction instead of fact. He died at the advanced age of 74 years, the sad event occurring July 5, 1881, at Eureka Springs, whither he had gone for the benefit of his health. His remains were brought home and interred at Waverly. Mrs. Willis is still living. Mr. Willis' postoffice is Corder. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
