Cardin cliftondcardin@juno.com July 9, 2010, 8:17 pm Chillicothe Morning Constitution November 14, 1905 Nov 14, 1905 CMC MO - Pg 1 - Whipped until Blood flowed - Higginsville MO NOv 14 A mob of forty men tied Michael Francisco to a telegraph pole near Corder, five miles east of this place, at ten o'clock yesterday morning and whipped him until the blood flowed to the ground. Francisco was almost unconcious when released and told to leave the community forever. The mob also took Mrs. Hugh Epperson to the edge of town and told her it would not be advisable for her to return. Three weeks ago Francisco and Mrs. Epperson eloped and went to Kansas City. Leaving the whereabouts of the couple, Epperson in company with the Rev. Roth who has charge of the Catholic Church in this place, went to Kansas City. Additional Comments: Lena Free Epperson would go on to marry Henry C. Fritsch and die Feb 22, 1957 in Missouri. Hugh Epperson would die 1930 after marrying Hattie Miller and having another group of children.
