Fred C. Hughes The Rev. Fred C. Hughes, former pastor of the Odessa C.P. Church died in Warrensburg Saturday after a lingering illness. He was born in Polk County but spent most of his life in Warresnburg. His wife and six children survive him, beside the many warm friends made during his years of ministry. The Rev. J.A. Bozarth of Bates City gave the funeral address and J.F. Martin and Frank Ramsey of Odessa were two of the pall bearers. *************************************** The Odessa Democrat Odessa, Lafayette County, Missouri Friday, Dec 23, 1927 forty-fifth year, sixteenth number Death of Cumberland Pastor Rev. Fred C. Hughes, well known in Odessa, Dies in Warrensburg The Rev. Fred C. Hughes, 51 years old, died at Oak Hill sanitarium at Warrensburg at 2:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Death was caused by cancer of the stomach, from which he had been suffering for some time. Rev. Hughes was taken to Mayo Bros. sanitarium several weeks ago, and it was reported by doctors there that his death was only a matter of time. Last Sunday morning, he was taken to the Warrensburg sanitarium, where his death resulted Saturday morning. He was cheerful in spite of the great pain, and talked and visited with people who came to see him until the last. Funeral services were held at the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Warrensburg on Monday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by the Rev. W.R. Reid of Warrensburg, and the Rev. J.A. Bozarth of Odessa ganve the funeral address. Six other pastors of the C.P. church gave talks. J.F. Martin and Frank Ramsey of Odessa were two of the pall bearers. Rev. E.W. Johnson also of Odessa was one of teh seven honorary pall bearers. The funeral arrangements were made by Mr. Hughes before his death, and were carried out as he asked in exact detail. Fred C. Hughes, former pastor of the Odessa Cumberland Presbyterian church, was born in Polk county, Mo., and -------d to Johnson county while a young man to engage in the ministry. With the exception of three years when he served as a pastor here and in Springfield, Mr. Hughes had spent the last 20 years of his life in Warrensburg. He leaves his wife and six children, Mrs. Marie Singleton of Wichita, Kansas; Harold, Glenn, Helen, Kathryn and Robert Hughes of Warrensburg. Mr. Hughes was a fine man, loved by all who knew him, and his untimely death is mourned by a host of friends everywhere.
