The evidence for this connection comes from several Ray county probate records from the 1870s and 1880s including those for Elizabeth CHIPMAN( 1821-1878), George A. MASONs widow and Samuel himself. Samuel was born, according the KENTUCKIANS IN MISSOURI, in Mason county. A Ray county history indicates he moved to Lafayette county in Missouri in 1837 with his parents Robert MASON (d. 1839) and Sarah Wiatt OWENS. After Roberts 1839 death, Sarah married Gideon FLOURNOY who also served as Samuel's guardian until he reached maturity. In 1856 in Lafayette county, Samual married George DELANEY. Samuel served in the Confederate army during the Civil War, but after the war ended, he settled with his family in Ray county where he resided until his late 1881 death. I have the newspaper article about the murder which does not give the Vall. first name. Lexington was the location. Vallandingham owned the St. Charles Restaurant in Lexington. Meyers said he fired the shot because Vallandingham was fooling around with Meyers' wife. So much B.S. Mrs. Vallandingham was with her husband and there wasn't any fooling around. The newspaper writer expressed some concern with the story Meyers offered. Do you know what materials are available about this time? A letter from Vall talked about the unrest in the Kansas territory nearby. He could have been a victim of a political dissatisfaction, or Meyers could have been an unhappy ex-partner of Vall. In 1818, Francis Redding married Nancy Norris in Lexington, MO (which is now Lafayette county, but was perhaps Lillard then). In 1826, Francis and Nancy lived in Morgan county, Illinois, where their son, John B., was born. In the early 1830s, they were in what is now McDonough county, IL., and by 1834 were in Des Moines county, IA., where John B. married Mary Ann Gilliland and their son Alfred was born. They moved to Putnam county, MO, where Alfred married Almedia Bradshaw and their son Chancey was born. Chancey was my grandfather and lived most of his life in Johnson and Leavenworth counties in Kansas. It is the 1818 Missouri connection that I know little about (and of course the years prior to that --back to NC). If you have MO information, I was probably inquiring especially about the time and place around Lexington in 1818. Not only am I interested in Reddings and Norrises there at that time, I am interested in who the early settlers were in that area and what drew them there. Jacob Braasch, born in Germany, died on Aug. 23, 1884. He was buried at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Concordia, Lafayette, MO. His widow, Metta Braasch, nee Viebrock, b. June 17, 1844 in Plonjeshausen, Hannover, Germany, is said to have re-married in MO. Can anyone tell me anything about Metta's second marriage, such as the name of her second husband, where they made their home and if descendants exist today? My ancestors, Francis Redding and Nancy Norris were married in Lexington in 1818. I think this was before Lafayette county was formed. The Reddings and several Norris families seem to have migrated from White county, Tennessee to the Lexington area prior to 1820. I would like to know if this was part of a larger migration from the same area at the same time, and any info about these settlers. If you have suggestions, please let me know. 12-6-97 Nancy Robinson nana975@cdsnet.net Anyone out there researching Mary Ann Bell forn 1804 died 3 Aug. 1847, Lexington, MO?.
