W. G. Brown to J. A. Smith
Mortgage

This Indenture made this third day of October in the year of our Lord one 
thousand Eighteen hundred Fifty three between Willis G. Brown of the one part 
& John A. Smith of the other part, both of the County of Lewis and State of 
Missouri.  Witnesseth that the said John A. Smith for & in consideration of 
Three Hundred & Seventy Five Dollars to him in hand paid by the Said Willis G. 
Brown the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath Granted bargained and 
sold and by these presents doth Grant bargain & Sell alien and confirm unto 
the said Willis G. Brown and to his heirs and assigns forever all that tract 
or parcel of Land Situated in the county of Lewis in the State of Missouri 
Known as the North part of the East half of the North West Quarter of Section 
nine of Township Sixty Range Six West containing Sixty Acres (60) To Have & to 
Hold the premises aforesaid with all the privileges and apertenances thereunto 
belonging or in any wise appertaining unto him the said Willis G. Brown & his 
heirs & assigns forever.  Provided Always that these presents are upon this 
Express Condition that If the Said John A. Smith his heirs Executors or 
Administrators Shall pay or cause to be paid to the said Willis G. Brown his 
heirs or assigns or Administrators the Sum of Three Hundred & Seventy five 
Dollars Said money to be paid on or before the third day of October in the 
year one thousand Eight Hundred & fifty five Together with Six percent 
Interest from date as specified in a Note for the above Sum Given by the Said 
John A. Smith to the said Willis G. Brown of Even date of this obligation then 
& thenceforth these presents and Every thing herein Contained shall cease and 
be void any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding.
In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal the date first above

Be it known that on the third day of October in the year of our Lord one 
Thousand Eight Hundred & fifty Three personally came before the undersigned a 
Justice of the peace in & for said County of Lewis & State aforesaid John A. 
Smith whose name is subscribed to the within Deed of Mortgage personally known 
to me to be the Identical person & hereby acknowledged it to be his own Deed & 
act.
Given under my hand this the date above written.

[the following is written in the margin]  I acknowledge to have rec'd full 
satisfaction of the within mortgage and Release all my right title and 
interest in the Real estate therein mentioned.  Given under my hand this 26th
