Lewis County, Missouri Obituaries - Nunn, W. H. W. H. NUNN OLDEST LEWIS NATIVE, DIES LaGrange, Mo., April 12, 1936.-William H. Nunn, 92, thought to be the oldest native born citizen of Lewis county, died at his home in the Maywood community Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock. Mr. Nunn was born May 15,1844, the son of John Gatewood and Susan Alexander Nunn, and was the last surviving member of a family of sixteen children. His parents were among the first settlers in Lewis county. They came from Kentucky in 1829 and entered a large tract of land near the present site of Maywood. Mr. Nunn lived all his life on land his father entered and near the site of the first pioneer cabin. Mr. Nunn was married to Miss Eliza Brown, November 11, 1869. Two children were born, who died in infancy. After her death he was married to Miss Clarice Melinda Patrick, June 2, 1872. She died August 16, 1927. They were the parents of twelve children, five of whom survive. They are Judge E. C. Nunn and Mrs. Mary Wright of Maywood; Mrs. Elizabeth Goings of Durham, Mrs. Nettie Roland of Kansas City, and Mrs. Lucile Blade of Fresno. Thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Nunn was a member of the Methodist church, and had been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for approximately sixty-six years. He was the oldest member, from the point of continuous membership in the county. He had received a much prized gold medal from the order upon the fiftieth anniversary of his membership. He was well versed in Civil War history. He was a member of Porter’s command and took part in a number of skirmishes. Funeral services for Mr. Nunn will be held in the Chambers funeral parlor Sunday morning at 11 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. W. K. Moore.
