Article of agreement, made and executed in duplicate, this 13th day of May, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty six, by and between Amery Harrison and Caleb Cox, administration and administrator of Isham Harrison deceased, late of Madison County, in the State of Missouri, of the first part, and Cornelius Campbell ( a free person of colour) of the same place, Witnesseth: That whereas, Lucinda, Lavina, Castor, Campbell, Jane, Thornton, Barton, Isaac and Burnett, persons of color on the 13th day of January, eighteen hundred and thirty six, by their next (?) friend, Cornelius Campbell, instituted suit respectively, in the circuit court of the said county of Madison, to establish their freedom: Now, it is hereby stipulated and agreed by and between the said parties, hereto, that if the said Amsey Harrison and Calieb Cox, as administrators of aforesaid shall release and forever quite claim all the right, title, interest, claim and property, which the said Isham Harrison had in and to the said mentioned coloured person Lucinda, at the time of his decease, and shall also suffer and permit the said Cornelius to have, hold and possess the youngest child of the said Lucinda, named Thornton, until the said child shall attain the age of six years, then the said Cornelius, hereby stipulates and agrees on his part, to dismiss the aforementioned suits, commenced in the said circuit court of Madison County, and further hereby agrees and covenants, that he will not any future time, by any word, act or deed have, or use any agency in prosecuting said suit, or in institution or causing to be instituted similar suits for the purposes therein intended, or for the purpose of establishing or causing to be established the freedom of the said above mentioned coloured persons --- It is also stipulated and agreed hereby that the said Caleb Cox and Amsy Harrison, as administrators as aforesaid, shall pay at their own personal expense all the costs and charges that have accrued, and may accrue by reason of the institution of said suits, and the dismissal thereof - and the said Cornelius hereby agrees to relinquish and surrender up any and all claims and demands whatsoever he may have against the Estate of the said Isham Harrison deceased, by reason of any contracts or dealing which existed between him and the said deceased, at anytime previous hereto. In testimony whereof we the said Amsy Harrison and Caleb Cox, as administrators of aforesaid, and the said Cornelius Campbell, parties hereto have hereunto subscribed our names and affixed our seals the day and year first aforesaid. Of Isham Harrison deceased, late of Madison County in the Sate of Missouri, have this day, for and consideration of the stipulations contained in a certain written agreement now on file in the Clerk's office of Madison Circuit Court and State aforesaid, entered unto by the said Caleb Cox and Amsy Harrison of the first part and the said Cornelius Campbell of the second part, and for the further considerations of one dollar, to us fully paid by the said Cornelius Campbell, the receipt of which is hereby fully acknowledged, remiss, release, and forever quit claim, and by these presents do remiss, release, and for ever quit claim, all the right, title, interest, claim and property of the said Isham Harrison deceased, in and to a certain mulatto woman, named Lucinda, about forty years of age - And we, the said Caleb Cox and Amsy Harrison, admis.. as aforesaid, do hereby covenant, that we will not either directly or indirectly do, permit, or suffer to be done by ourselves, or the heirs of the said Isham Harrison by our license or permission any act or thing to bring unto servitude the said Lucinda to us, or either of us or any or either of the heirs of the said Isham Harrison deceased -- In testimony whereof, we have hereunto subscribed our names and affixed our seals, as admis.
