Last Sunday at noon a number of friends of relatives gathered at the Jess Travis home to celebrate the birthday of Miss Lissie Travis. A large table was filled with the best eats the country affords and all helped themselves cafeteria style. (E) Mr and Mrs. Allen Branson and family are spending their vacation with his mother Mrs. Alice Branson. they spent the fourth at Dry Fork and Sunday they visited with Jasper Duncan and Jack Krone's. A.J. Wofford went to Vienna on business Tuesday. He is employed on Dr. Streutker's ranch on Shoal creek. John Hutchison obit. (Obit has been posted to Maries County Obituary site.) Miss Katherine Abel who came to visit with relatives had to return to her home in Hutchison Kansas Saturday on account of being sick. Fritz Schweer and wife visited relatives at Owensville last week. There was an ice cream social at Chrissie Abel's Monday night. Mrs. George Lindner of Calif., daughter of Mr and Mrs James Letterman is visiting here. Jesse and Lissie Travis, Ora Johnson, Myrtle Wilcox, Miss Greeup, and Mrs. Gus Swanson took dinner with Obe Bledsoe and wife Monday. Paul Breuer, wife, and Miss Lillie Swanson were in Linn and Jefferson City Monday on business. Clay Mining Now in Full Blast. .....Most old pits are working and some new ones being added. Perhaps the largest is the one on Lanes Prairie near Lindell recently opened by Dewitt Terrill. .... has been in operation about 3 weeks, but have moved many ton of clay. About 20 men are employed...... clay is transported in seven trucks owned by Mr. Terrill............... The largest of the older pits is the Roger-Miller pit operated by Ed Withouse. (E) Mrs. E.C. Lindner returned from a two weeks visit with her parents at Seneca, MO. Jno. Smith, engineer at Yarna Stations received his new Falcon Knight car Monday night about midnight and left the same hour for Springfield on his vacation. The car was delivered by S.G. Lindner and Tynes were the best men with the bat, while Owens and Swanson did best playing the field. Honse the young left hander pitched the last five innings for Vienna, and only two batters reached first base, Branson for the winners was a little wild, but he pitched a very nice game as the balls were wet and slick..... Mrs. Claude Raver visited Mrs. Edna Kanth Sunday. Bessie Jett returned home from Dixon where she has been visiting her parents. Fred Branson wife and baby spent the fourth of July at Linn. Mrs J. Martin and daughter Opal and husband were Bland visitors Sunday. Miss Nellie Giesler is visiting her sister Mrs. George Welch. Fred Kubits went to St. Louis Monday on business. Raymond Shockley and wife are visiting relatives near Pay Down and fishing. The birthday party for Miss Anna Belle Krause was well attended Monday. John Licklider and wife were calling on Wm. Welch last week. Dr. Bunge spent the latter part of last week at Kansas City visiting relatives and friends. The Dr. returned on the train and Mrs. Bunge is waiting up there to meet her son Clarence who will be discharged in a few days from the army. They will drive thru. Several have received notice to go to work at the factory Thursday. Mrs. Fred Kinkade was calling on Mrs. Payton Tuesday. Everett Phelps has a new car since he turned his car over and tore it up. Edgar Stone is visiting relatives in St. Louis this week. Walter Tipton is taking care of his barber shop. Mrs. Henry Boyce was visiting Mrs. D. S. Branson one nite this week. Jesse Griffith, Rock Island operator at Belle and D. Henley agent at Summerfield exchange places this week. Mr. Griffith will move to Summerfield soon. Walter Zinn and family and Ed Stamm and family after spending the week at J.R. Lorts returned to St. Louis. Mr. Stamm and Zinn spent much of their time on the river and caught very fine fish. Leonard Warner and Archer Stamm and their families who were among the vacation crowd at Lorts returned to the city last Thursday. Buren Martin of St. Louis is here at present. Lastly is the Financial Statement of the City of Belle, Missouri for the year ending June 30, 1928. It will have to be a full page on its own. Page 4 SUMMERFIELD Mr. L. H. Keeney wife and daughter, Mrs. Wm. Owens was trading in town with our merchants Thursday. Sam McQueen visited with his half brother Wm. Poe of Belle Sunday night. C. C. Gieck and family visited in Summerfield Sunday. Mr and Mrs C.O. Jones of Lanes Prairie visited in the McQueen home Sunday. Hadley Strain returned from Chesterfield about the middle of the week with his face broke out the Doctor pronounced it poison. The one-week meeting at the Church of Christ, closed Friday night by Elder Frank Swanson of Iowa. A. S. Strain is a very busy man trying to keep his Frigidaire in running order so as to keep his ice cream frozen. Thomas McQueen and family visited his sister Mrs. Cleve Johnson north of Belle Sunday Evening. Carol Krening was trading in town Thursday. Mr. E. C. Mee of LeBouf was in town Saturday. We were sorry to loose Mr and Mrs Adam Backues who moved to Chesterfield last week. His brother Andrew and family who had been in St. Louis for some time occupies the place which they vacated. Mr H. M. Keeney wife and Ralph Crider and family, R. L. McQueen and family were visiting Robt. and Chestley Goodman home Sunday. L. M. Drysee had the misfortune to loose one of his work animals Wednesday night due to the extreame (sic) heat. MCKINLEY Mrs. Lattie Pope and children of Belle visited Mrs. G(eorge??) Barbarick and Mrs. Leonard Oliver Sunday. H. O. Barbarick, wife and sons Wilbur and Kenneth visited relatives here and Belle Saturday and Sunday. (Starting here, the paper is faded almost completely out for about 3 inches of type) Ray Thompson and family were visiting at (????) of Belle Sunday evening. Mrs. R. V. (??? ) Clarence (????? ) Williamstown, Kan were visiting R. V. Wilson's family and also visited his father and family at Union. They returned home last Thursday. Mrs. James Housewright and son, Eugene, returned to their home in St. Louis Sunday after a pleasant visit with relatives here and Belle. Mrs. Oscar Jett died at her home in Union last Thursday. They formerly lived in this vicinity, she was a sister of James Haynes of Byron. We Sympathize with the bereaved. Otto Thompson and wife and Mrs. Mary Thomspon(sic) were visiting Mrs. R. V. Wilson Sunday night. Dorsey Wilson is working for his uncle Ray Thompson at the present. Frank Breeding is working on the pipe line at present. Herman Roesner was trading in Belle Monday. Ray Thompson sold a calf to the Belle Market Tuesday. George Tiede was trading in Belle Monday. Bercie and Ralph Barbarick returned home after a pleasant visit with their uncle at Jefferson City. Otto Thompson visited his brother, Thomas, at Jefferson City last Friday and while there purchased a Chevrolet sedan. Willard Oliver is planning to visit his uncles and other relatives in north Missouri in the near future. Mr and Mrs Joe Dewell and son, Joseph, of St. Louis were visiting her brother Frank Breeding and family a few days last week. Mr and Mrs M.S. Goodman and sons, Stanley and Richard were visiting relatives here and also shopping in Belle, Saturday. Homer Thompson attended church at Belle Sunday. BYRON L.C. Johnson and family, H. L. Francis and wife and Mrs. L. M. Branson were visiting with Uncle Wallace Francis Sunday. J. S. Haynes and wife were in Bland Sunday evening. Bertha Matthews and children of Owensville visited in the home of her sister, W. P. Walker Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Minda Pachal and son, Wallace, and Mr and Mrs Rudolph Paschal of Kansas City are visiting in the Louie Francis home since Sunday. A nice shower of rain fell in this vicinity Sunday afternoon which was needed very much. W. P. Walker and family were Sunday dinner guests in the Will Fleischmann home. Rhua Branson of Kansas City came out for a visit with home folks Monday. Louie Mittlehauser delivered sheep to the Farmers Exchange Monday. Don't forget the date of the Byron Picnic Saturday, July 14. C. H. Lehnhoff and daughter, Bernice, were at Byron Saturday. Wesley Flieschmann visited in the Wm. Goettling home sunday afternoon. (I spelled Flieschmann exactly as written) Mrs. Cora Mason of Belle spent Saturday night and Sunday in the home of her sister, Mrs. Chris Koenig. VICHY Mrs. Henry Montgomery who has been suffering the past week with blood poison is reported much better. Mr and Mrs Rue Shockley of St. Louis spent the past week with Mrs Shockley's parents, Mr and Mrs Bill Waldron. Miss Lena McCandless spent the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs McCandless. Mrs. Murray who has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wills of Belle, returned home Tuesday. Titus White and Claud Lay of Winkler was in Vichy Sunday evening. Mrs. R. R. James and her daughters, Gladys, Roxey and Stella James were in Rolla Sunday visiting at the Will Rhodes home. Mrs. James Letterman and daughter, Mrs. Litner of Calif. was in Vichy a short while Sunday afternoon. They called on Aunt Lucy Wilbern. Chas. Dehn and family of St. Louis are visiting at the homes of Lee James and John Linnaman. Leroy Moreland went to St. James Monday morning to begin work for Everett Steen. Dan Crutts and wife of St. Louis are visiting relatives here. R. P. Mosher and family attended church in St. James Sunday. They were guests at the Everett Steen home after church. The Vichy ball team went to play the Friendship team Sunday afternoon. Owing to the rain only three innings were played, the score was 3 to 1 in favor of Friendship. P. F. Litterman and wife of Denver, Colo., who formerly lived here arrived for a visit with relatives and old friends. Hurrah! For THE BELLE PICNIC August 3 and 4. Whose Car? The Treasury offers a new 3 3/8 per cent 12-15 year Treasury bond in exchange for Third Liberty Loan Bonds. New bonds will bear interest from 16 July 1928. Interest on Third Liberty Loan Bonds surrendered for exchange will be paid in full to September 15, 1928.
